Locked On Raptors - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Raptors

In Episode 800 (!!!), Sean and Vivek Jacob continue our series of 2019-20 Raptors player reviews with a look at Fred VanVleet, who rules. They kick things off by discussing the strides he made as a scorer in his first season as a starter, as well why the mid range has to be the next frontier of Fred's development as a bucket getter, Next, they discuss his playmaking, which also took some nice steps this year, but still brought with it plenty of greying hairs due to his love of dribbling. Lastly, they take a look to the future and try to sort out how much the Raptors should be willing to pay up to keep VanVleet in Toronto long term, and the reasons why he's important to the team's building process beyond his very good on-court play.

In Episode 799, Sean goes solo to break down the rookie season that was for Raptors combo guard Terence Davis as well as looking at what next year may hold in store for him. Sean kicks things off by first breaking down Davis up-and-down relationship with Nick Nurse's rotation, and looks at the reasons why he may have fallen out of favour by the playoffs despite some very high highs throughout the regular season. Then he looks ahead to next season, and drums up some creative ways in which Davis may be able to earn some minutes in the event the Raptors bring back their whole guard rotation from this past season. Lastly, Sean takes a pair of listener questions and mushes them into one: What's Davis' ceiling? And how many players from the 2019 draft will have better careers than Davis, who of course went undrafted.

In Episode 798, Sean is joined by Yasmin (@carmelohdrama) to break down Pascal Siakam's 2019-20 season before looking to what Siakam's future may bring. They first dive into the remarkable growth he displayed from year to year as he took on top offensive duty for this year's team before looking at what ailed him in the post-season. Next, they turn an eye to next year, and try to pinpoint which skill he should most look to improve upon going into the 2020-21 season. Lastly, they take a listener question that asks: is Siakam an untouchable cornerstone, or a piece to be traded for a superstar upgrade down the line?

In Episode 797, Sean and Katie Heindl take a look back at the season of your favourite and ours, Kyle Lowry, and all the different intricacies that make him such an absolute pleasure to watch play basketball. They kick things off by examining what made Kyle so good this season, and whether this was their favourite of the eight seasons he's played in Toronto. Next they look to the future and try to determine where Lowry will play next season (he'll probably be in Toronto, don't fret), and dream up their ideal path forward for the franchise's relationship with Lowry. Lastly, they take a listener question about the All-Star game Lowry made so fun that morphs into a discussion of their favourite Lowry moments of the season. There were a lot, man!

In Episode 796, Sean goes solo for what was supposed to be the review of Marc Gasol's 2019-20 season, before it morphed into a fond farewell to Big Daddy Spain upon the news out of Spain that he's approaching a deal with Barcelona. Sean first takes a look at the immense impact Gasol had on both the championship team and this year's Raptors, as he once again was an on/off wizard. Next Sean goes through some of the ways the Raptors might look to replace Gasol, which basically morphs into a Xavier Tillman propaganda segment. Lastly, he answers a listener question about Gasol's best on and off-court moments during his brief but glorious time spent with the Raptors. What a damn king. Rosé Papi for life.

In Episode 795, Sean and Vivek Jacob chat about Rondae Hollis-Jefferson in the latest of our 2019-20 Season in Review series of episodes. They kick things off, first by talking for a second about the Pacers' reported encroaching demise before diving into the season that was for RHJ. He was pretty fun, and sure was good at falling down with style. Next they delve into whether or not Rondae a) has played himself into something more than a minimum contract, and b) why that next contract will likely not be coming from the Raptors. They close things out with a listener question about Rondae's handedness, before dropping a couple thoughts on the NBA Finals.

In Episode 794, Sean and Lucas Hann (213 Hoops) address the ongoing rumours tying the Raptors to Montrezl Harrell and sort through and pros and cons of the Raptors pursuing him. They kick things off by getting the Cole's Notes from Lucas on Harrell and his style of play, before transitioning into the reasons for and against the Raptors making a play to sign him in free agency this off-season. On the good side? His offense as a roll man is certainly nice, and he may be easy enough to hide on defense within the Raptors system. As far as the list of reasons why the Raptors shouldn't be in the Harrell business? Well, it's very long! Tune in to hear all about it.

In Episode 793, Sean and Kelsea O'Brien (Dishes & Dimes) continue the look back at each and every Raptors' 2019-20 season with a discussion of Norman Powell. They first talk about how his improvement came about this season, as this year saw him nearly double his career-best scoring average while maintaining a 40 percent mark from three. Then they take a look at what next season may hold for him, and in particular address the potential of him being traded this off-season while his value is high. What type of move may make sense for him? Does anything actually line up, or would it be a trade just to make a trade? Lastly they field a listener question about where Norm ranks on the list of all-time Raptors.

In Episode 792, Sean goes solo to talk about the season that was for Chris Boucher before looking ahead to what his future (or lack thereof) with the Raptors might look like. Things kick off with a recap of how Boucher's season played out, as he went from sparsely used depth piece to a chaos-inducing member of the Raptors regular rotation. Next Sean looks at Boucher's uncertain future with the team, and tries to pin down what the right number to bring him back on would be for the Raptors as he hits restricted free agency. Lastly, Sean takes a questions from listener James regarding Boucher's ability to alter his gunner mentality, and dives into why he never wants to see Boucher change who he is, even if it means he may not be a reliable rotation player at any point in his career.

In Episode 791, Sean and Vivek Jacob kick off the "Raptors in Review" series of episodes in which they'll look at the seasons of each member of the Raptors before projecting their arcs forward. Today it's all about Matt Thomas, baby! They start out by looking at Thomas' progression throughout his rookie season, all the way up to his playing of real minutes in Game 7 against the Celtics. Next they turn their attention to next season and discuss how they think Thomas will be used in the Raptors' 2020-21 rotation, as well as what it might take for Thomas to get a shot in the 3-Point Contest if and when there is a 2021 All-Star weekend. They wrap things up by choosing one of a handful of listener questions about Thomas to dive into: does Thomas' defensive improvement make Norman Powell more expendable via trade? All that and more! Chris Boucher is up on Thursday.
