Sneaky Joe looks at the Panthers matchup, with Florida still missing Alek Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk, but now also their leading scorer Brad Marchand. This is the most beatable Panthers team the Sabres have seen in years. Especially with Sergei Bobrovsky struggling mightily this season. On the Sabres end it will be Colten Ellis in goal, who is coming off a great game against the Rangers. Also, why Joe likes Jason Zucker to score a goal on Monday night. And who we should be rooting for on the out of town scoreboard.

The Buffalo Sabres have now won 13 of their last 14 games following their win against the Ducks. The building was packed, loud, and the Sabres gave the fans a lot to cheer about. Jack Quinn leads the way with two goals, the opening goal, and the game-winning goal. Sneaky Joe was impressed all the way around by the Sabres effort. Skating, hits, defense, fights, goals... but only for 55 minutes. The Sabres yet again, almost collapsed with three goals allowed in the final minutes. Lindy Ruff was clearly upset about the effort late in his postgame comments. Is the Sabres late game problem something that is going to stick with them and cost them games?
The common thread in the last three games in third periods seems to be the Sabres backing off and not pressuring the way they do in the first two periods.

Mattias Samuelsson can't stop, won't stop. Against the Rangers, Samuelsson had another incredible game, shutting plays down defensively, setting up Josh Doan to open the scoring, and firing a laser shorthanded to close the game, getting the win for the Sabres. Samuelsson's season continues to be dumbfounding, with some stats showing him being one of the five most valuable players in the entire NHL. Should the Sabres consider throwing Samuelsson on the powerplay?
Colten Ellis shows up for the first time in over a month with a great start, but yet again a Sabres goalie lets in a soft goal that let the opponent back in the game. Josh Doan and Ryan McLeod continue to contribute as well, opening and closing the goal scoring on the night. Where does the win push the Sabres to in the standings?

Jarmo Kekäläinen's first monster move as GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets was to acquire Artemi Panarin in a trade. Will history repeat itself? There is reason to believe the New York Rangers would be open to moving their best player, who's contract expires at the end of the season. Could Jarmo and the Buffalo Sabres swoop in for Panarin? There are lots of things that make a trade difficult, including Panarin likely being a rental for the Sabres, his age, his salary, and a very high trade cost. Sneaky Joe presents pick + prospect trade ideas, but also the possibility of an Alex Tuch for Artemi Panarin swap. Even if it's only for three months, Panarin could be the key to ending the playoff drought, and even maybe having playoff success this season.
Plus, what the Sabres have in front of them in a matchup at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers, who are without both Igor Shesterkin and Adam Fox for this game. The Rangers do not have much else that should scare the Sabres without those two. However, Colten Ellis starting for the Sabres in goal presents an element of unknown to the matchup.

The Buffalo Sabres built up a huge 4-0 lead over the lowly Vancouver Canucks and with just ten minutes to go, but still managed to let them back in the game, in part due to a baaad goal given up by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Was it a good game from UPL? Sneaky Joe argues that the third goal he gives up is more evidence that he can never fully be trusted, even within a game where he was otherwise awesome. Bo Byram's amazing stretch of play continued with two more assists. Lindy Ruff deserves credit for allowing Byram and all his defensemen license to play free and aggressive. It's clearly working with Byram.
Plus, are Ryan McLeod and Alex Tuch the greatest penalty kill duo in Sabres history? The two connected for another shorthanded goal versus the Canucks. Lindy Ruff says Colten Ellis will get a game in soon. Where is the right place to put that game? Does Lindy really need to start Ellis? And where Jiri Kulich might re-enter the lineup if he returns sometime soon.

The Buffalo Sabres face the Vancouver Canucks looking to bounce back from their first loss in weeks and they'll get Jason Zucker back into the lineup, hopefully to get a powerplay going that hasn't scored in six games. Who's spot will Zucker take? Is he enough to save their powerplay? Plus, Noah Ostlund's demotion in the lineup is tough to take, but does show off the Sabres depth up front. The Canucks, meanwhile, are a team on the verge of collapse, that has already traded away their best player in Quinn Hughes. An opponent ripe for the taking. Will Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen get in the way of the Sabres bounce back?

The Buffalo Sabres went to Columbus win a 10-game win streak and left with a 0-game win streak. How much of the Sabres 5-1 loss was on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's shoulders? How much of it was just running into a hot goalie in Jet Greaves? How will the Sabres bounce back with a bunch of home games coming up? Past mistakes show the next few games are huge. Plus, Jason Zucker's return is coming, but is Noah Ostlund going to be the forward that gets the short end of the stick, and not Peyton Krebs? Sneaky Joe is not a fan of Lindy Ruff's lines at practice.

The Buffalo Sabres have three players that are headed to the Olympics in Milan! Tage Thompson, after putting in years of effort becoming a great hockey player and showing out at the World Championships, makes Team USA for the Olympics. Sneaky Joe sees Tage playing wing in the middle-six of the lineup, and likely the team's second powerplay unit.
Rasmus Dahlin will play a big role for Sweden, but how big of a role? Joe points back to the 4-Nations tournament, where the Swedes didn't know what they had in Dahlin, and didn't use him nearly enough. With Mattias Ekholm staying home this go round, will Dahlin be trusted more in big spots?
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will represent Finland, but he might not just be sitting on the bench. With back-to-back underpar seasons for Juuse Saros, there is a real chance if UPL gets hot over the next month, that he could start the tournament in goal for Finland.

The Buffalo Sabres walked into Dallas with a nine game win streak and left with a ten game win streak, led by a super performance by Tage Thompson. Tage leads the way with two goals and an assist, including the most impressive wrist shot we've seen from a Sabre all season. Sneaky Joe breaks down Tage's game, along with Noah Ostlund who made a big impact, Bo Byram who scored his ninth goal of the year to give the Sabres the lead in the second period, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stepping up. UPL is on fire with three straight starts allowing just one goal. Which is especially huge due to the injury to Alex Lyon.
The numbers also show that the Sabres straight up outplayed the Dallas Stars, one of the best teams in the NHL, in their own building. The Sabres penalty kill completely stifled the Stars elite powerplay. Alex Tuch and Ryan McLeod looked like two elite NFL safeties covering space when on the PK.

The Buffalo Sabres, without Alex Lyon due to injury, face an elite team in the Dallas Stars, as they look to tie a team record ten wins in a row. With Lyon out, the Sabres turn to Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to carry the load in goal, against a backup goalie for Dallas in Casey DeSmith. Sneaky Joe breaks down the Stars, who are an elite powerplay team led by Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson that punish any team that takes penalties against them. And no matter if it's Jake Oettinger or DeSmith, a team that always gets good goaltending. However, numbers show the Sabres could get the better of Dallas when the two teams are at even-strength.
Dallas' lineup features top heavy talent like Mikko Rantanen, Robertson, and Miro Heiskanen, with veteran depth like Matt Duchene and Jamie Benn in their bottom-six. Can the Sabres match that depth? Plus, another sign that Jason Zucker could return to the lineup on a top line for this game. And what certain sites say about the Sabres playoff odds.
