Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

Brandon Staley’s aggressive and versatile approach to the slot defender position sets the potential for Jonas Sanker to shine for the New Orleans Saints in 2026. The shift from Dennis Allen’s style means a demand for defenders who thrive both outside and in the nickel. With players like Sanker Quincy Riley, and Julian Blackmon also in the mix, how the Saints maximize talent in the evolving “star” role is one of the team's biggest remaining questions.

Saints pursue a lighter travel load thanks to a smart Paris game scheduling trick, pushing the team closer to league-average travel miles. As OTAs begin, anticipation builds for Ja'Lynn Polk’s full debut alongside Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele and three promising rookie receivers.

The New Orleans Saints can unlock a new offensive level by ramping up play action, bolstering Kellen Moore’s scheme and run game with Travis Etienne Jr. Tyler Shough’s performance already stands out, boasting the NFL’s top completion percentage out of shotgun and leading all qualifying quarterbacks between the numbers. Motion and creative personnel usage, including versatile threats like Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele, and Jordyn Tyson, have positioned the Saints among the league’s most modern offenses with explosive potential.

Last season saw a dramatic leap in motion usage, making the Saints the third-highest in the NFL. Paired with improvements in pace and a dedicated middle-field attack, New Orleans’ offense is poised for even greater production.

The New Orleans Saints defense is gearing up to counter the NFL’s rising trend of multiple tight end sets, facing an intense 2026 schedule loaded with two- and three-tight end offenses. Additions like Kaden Elliss, Christen Miller, and Anfernee Jennings shore up the run defense and coverage against these heavier packages. The challenge intensifies as nine of the top 12-personnel usage teams from 2025 are on the Saints’ docket, including the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, and Arizona Cardinals.

The linebacker group faces tough questions after the departure of Demario Davis and limited offseason moves beyond Ellisa and the emerging Danny Stutzman. Meanwhile, Jonas Sanker’s potential STAR/slot role and adjustments in the Saints’ zone-heavy Brandon Staley defense could be key to neutralizing tight end mismatches.

The New Orleans Saints are poised to revolutionize their offense, strategically building around heavier two- and three-tight end sets that could define the next wave of NFL attacks. Kellen Moore’s system, featuring dynamic talents like Juwan Johnson, Noah Fant, Oscar Delp, Chris Olave, and Travis Etienne Jr., could outmaneuver defenses unprepared for this physical, versatile approach. Early offseason moves suggest the Saints are committed to joining trendsetters like the Los Angeles Rams by maximizing mismatches and disguising run/pass intentions to keep opponents guessing.

Saints fans have plenty of reasons to watch how this reshaped roster takes advantage of the latest offensive trends—without sidelining proven playmakers or abandoning explosive three-wide receiver sets. The chess match is just beginning in New Orleans, and the Saints are determined to move first.

In this episode, the crew dives into bold offensive predictions for the New Orleans Saints in 2026, with discussions centered on expectations for a much-improved offense, including the emergence of a top-10 unit and the potential for two 1,000-yard receivers. They explore changes in the running game, highlight the impact of new acquisitions, and analyze how offensive philosophy and personnel groupings—particularly at tight end—are evolving both for the Saints and across the NFL. The conversation also touches on the latest updates with key veteran contracts and identifies several underrated players poised to make an impact heading into camp.

The New Orleans Saints have a contract offer on the table for Cam Jordan, but his future in New Orleans hinges on more than just salary. Accepting a role, or hold out for a pass-rushing opportunity fitting his veteran status is the decision. Mickey Loomis provides transparency, revealing ongoing negotiations with Jordan and with Alvin Kamara, whose place on the roster and contract now come down to resource management and shifting running back responsibilities after the addition of Travis Etienne Jr.

Chris Olave’s contract extension remains a priority, but health and guaranteed money create an extended timeline. OTAs signal a ramp-up for Jordyn Tyson and Christen Miller, with the Saints managing participation ahead of a possibly busi preseason set to include joint practices.

Tyler Shough headlines the New Orleans Saints’  team MVP race for 2026, but breakout campaigns from Travis Etienne Jr. and Chase Young could shake up the conversation. As Shough revitalizes hope at quarterback, Etienne’s dynamic running and Young’s late-game disruption offer game-changing potential. Chris Olave remains a consistent force at wide receiver, while the offensive line upgrades and a revitalized run game promise to redefine Kellen Moore’s offense.

On defense, Jonas Sanker emerges as a prime candidate to fill the crucial STAR/slot role in Brandon Staley’s scheme, leveraging his collegiate versatility and tackling prowess. Carl Granderson faces pivotal pressure to deliver a consistent and impactful season on the edge, especially as Cam Jordan’s future remains uncertain. Special teams get a major boost with the addition of Barion Brown and Lorenzo Styles, Jr. as the Saints target significant improvements in coverage and the return game.

The New Orleans Saints can ride their favorable 2026 NFL schedule to double-digit wins and an NFC South crown. With Tyler Shough at quarterback, Travis Etienne Jr. in the backfield, and new weapons like Jor7an Tyson and a healthy Chris Olave, the Saints seem primed to make noise. Especially after adding support on the offensive line and staying mostly healthy this offseason.

Key early matchups against the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens offer instant benchmarks, while divisional showdowns and crucial home games, including a high-stakes Monday Night Football clash with the Atlanta Falcons, set the stage for a potentially statement season. With minimal road trips outside of the Paris game and no short weeks on the calendar, New Orleans has the logistical edge.
