Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have decided to roll with Pete Carmichael at offensive coordinator. Giving him the reigns on the offense as a playcaller, developer, and installer. If Mickey Loomise, Gayle Benson, and the Saints really wanted to maintain continuity and cohesion - this was the way to do it. It also opens the door even wider for a return for QB Jameis Winston.

In order to maximize the success Pete Carmichael and Dennis Allen can have on the offensive side, the Saints will have to dedicate resources to bolstering the offense. Building Carmichael's offense won't be too challenging, but needs to be taken serious. Drafting receivers like Jameson Williams, Chris Olave, or Christian Watson are a good start. But pursuing more talent at tight end like O.J. Howard would be a massive upgrade. Attention will also have to be given to depth on the offensive line and at running back with Alvin Kamara's early season availability in question.

A look at Pete Carmichael's past success when calling plays for a talented roster. In 2011, 2012, and 2016 he had very public opportunities to call plays and put together some highly effective offenses, including a record holding one in terms of yardage output. But to replicate that success, the Saints will need to build their offense at WR and make the right choice at QB.

The New Orleans Saints have a lot of questions left to answer on the offensive side of the ball. Three positions stick out the most. Quarterback, offensive line - particularly tackle if Terron Armstead isn't re-signed - and wide receiver. If the Saints were to find a way to bring back Jameis Winston, drafting a QB might still be a good option for the team, especially if they can find good value. As for wide receiver, Jeff Ireland and the Saints scouting team should be looking to build opposite Michael Thomas this offseason.

Todd McShay' mock draft sends first-round mock raft sends Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral to the Big Easy in what would be a home run selection for the team, even though the first round might be early for quarterbacks in this draft. Positional value reigns supreme. A trade by the Pittsburgh Steelers in this draft indicates the Saints might have doubled up on QB in the offseason with Jameis Winston and Corral, which sets the Saints up for success now and in the future.

Another three-round mock draft misses the mark without addressing wide receiver in the first two days. This feels like a must for the New Orleans Saints who have struggled to bring in wide receiver talent despite valiant efforts. But landing a top offensive tackle in the first round could still be a big win. Charles Cross could be the best OT in this draft for the Saints playstyle.

The New Orleans Saints will be in the quarterback market this offseason, one in which the veteran market in particular is expected to be very active. That could put the Saints in a good position to explore every option, but should they? Or are their names that should be avoided? Former Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts QB Carson Wentz may need to be filed in the "avoid" category as the Saints look to step into a new era of offensive football.

Meanwhile, other options may get more appealing with a simplified look at receivers and a focus on the run game. One that fits the mold already and carries on the Saints' emphasis on familiarity is Teddy Bridgewater. Undefeated as a New Orleans Saint, could Teddy Two-Gloves make a return to the Big Easy?

The Saints have always been a team that focuses on homegrown talent. But should they reconsider their approach and look at the path taken by the now Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams? As a team never afraid to spend, never afraid to improve, the Saints certain could take that route. But whether or not they should is the question.

The New Orleans Saints are moving into a new era without Sean Payton. In doing so, they've elevated Dennis Allen to head coach and will look to fill both coordinator positions. Some in-house prospects could see more promotions as coaching changes and staff shuffling begin.

New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis and New Orleans Advocate | Times Picayune writer Amie Just join to discuss the changes, what's next, and where to expect the next moves to come.

Jameis Winston should lead the quarterback conversations, Marcus Williams will be a top priority free agent this offseason, Ryan Nielsen and Kris Richard should be the favorites for defensive coordinator while OC comes from outside the organization. Davis and Just discuss the best options and moves left throughout the offseason.

The New Orleans Saints have already begun their flurry of coaching staff changes under Dennis Allen's head coaching appointment. Curtis Johnson, Ben Nugent, and others are out, Doug Marrone is back, and the Saints have begun their defensive coordinator search with an Aubrey Pleasant interview.

Trey Wingo drops by at Super Bowl Radio Row to talk Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Dennis Allen, and more. Did the Saints make the right call by promoting Allen? Can they really find a way to pull off a trade for Rodgers or Wilson? And why Jameis Winston continues to make sense for the organization.

As the Saints look to answer the question at quarterback, second-year pro Ian Book is ready to compete for his chance to be the starter. Book joins on Radio Row to discuss his rookie season, how he helped the team early through substitutions, his first start vs. Miami, and what's next for the winningest quarterback of Notre Dame history.

The New Orleans Saints will be searching for new offensive and defensive coordinators. Two huge roles to fill. However, quarterback should be the top priority right away. Jameis Winston feels like the obvious and most attainable choice, but the Saints don't usually stop at what's simply most attainable, they go for the extensive search. Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, and others may be on the market this offseason. Expect the Saints to leave no stone unturned.

They may have to work similarly to replace Pete Carmichael as offensive coordinator. Carmichael is rumored to be sticking with the Saints, but not as offensive coordinator. If that's the Saints, New Orleans will be looking for a play-caller on the offensive side. Could Eric Bieniemy be hitting the market as some rumors begin to stir? Without any other head coaching jobs open, a lateral move may be his only option. And he spent a lot of time with the Saints.

Additionally, the team will be in search of a defensive coordinator. New Orleans has two really phenomenal internal candidates with Ryan Nielsen and Kris Richard. Both of which bring a ton of respect. But a key external candidate could be Minnesota Vikings co-defensive coordinator Andre Patterson. With Dennis Allen wanting to call plays, Patterson could be the perfect developing piece to add to the defense at either coordinator or DL coach.

It's official. The New Orleans Saints have named Dennis Allen their new head coach starting ahead of the 2022 NFL season. He was the front-runner all along having shut out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the team in 2021.

Ahead of Allen are some huge questions like whether or not his offensive staff can create something that will be attractive to a top free agent, if they'll be able to add weapons on offense, and whether or not they can continue their recent dominance on the defensive side of the ball.

Your Both Q joins to talk Dennis Allen's Oakland Raider tenure. Who things went, why they will e different this time, and how capable Allen has become.

The New Orleans Saints didn't lose but one interviewed coach to another team in Doug Pederson and now have a list of interviewed prospects for the head coaching position. Who will be the heir to Sean Payton?

Dennis Allen bring continuity and familiarity. He's seen the cultures shift and change in New Orleans throughout his years as an NFL coach and has built a fantastic defense with his vision. One capable of winning games.

Eric Bieniemy may be the Saints' best chance at landing an elite quarterback like Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, or Jameis Winston. And he knows how to build an offense with his vision.

Brian Flores gives the Saints the chance to add a head coach who players love and want to play for. The Saints could even bring him in as defensive coordinator for the year if the Texans fumble the bag.

Darren Rizzi brings his own familiarity factor as a well-regarded special teams coordinator with a variety of experience. He's a huge part of the Saints culture already as he's helped to develop a star special teams unit.

The front-runners, the best options, and the guy we think will get the job.

The New Orleans Saints expect to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. If hired, Bieniemy would give the Saints the best chance at attracting an elite quarterback like Russell Wilson in the trade market. How the Saints and Bieniemy would work together despite the playcalling concerns and why OC Pete Carmichael could play a major role.

Doug Pederson has been hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars, thinning the New Orleans Saints' list of candidates. However, the team should be and has shown that it is not in any kind of hurry throughout what has been a thorough and extensive coaching search. Why the Saints are so focused on maintaining continuity and cohesion.

Michael Thomas has missed the majority of the last two NFL seasons and he could be the key ingredient to making things work with a new QB and head coach. As long as he's in New Orleans at least. Will the all-pro, record-breaking receiver make his return to the Big Easy in 2022? Here's what's believed to be the case in Mobile, AL.
