Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints may have dropped their Monday night Miami Dolphins matchup, but their season still isn't over. The Saints have every intent on competing and still getting to the playoffs, and the road isn't an insurmountable one. The Saints were up against some challenging circumstances this week, most of which temporary, which leaves the door open for hope and optimism with two NFC South games left to go.

Ian Book struggled in his debut, completing only 60% of passes and throwing a pick-six. But he, just like the Saints team as a whole, had the cards stacked against him from the outset. A makeshift offensive line that featured a player that hadn't taken an NFL snap since 2017, pass-catchers that have drawn concern all season, and a run game that couldn't get going. Evaluating Book off of this game is nearly futile, but some questions should be asked about the usage of Alvin Kamara.

On a good note, rookie Pete Werner had a debut of his own as the defensive signal caller and performed remarkably well. He led the team in tackles, played really well in the run game and contributed in coverage as well. The future of the former Ohio State Buckeye is a bright one.

The New Orleans Saints may be dow 21 players going into the Monday Night matchup against the Miami Dolphins, but that won't stop them from believing they can put together a winning roster and gameplan. The Saints went so far as to sign Blake Bortles to back up young Ian Book and even call Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers to try to lure them out of retirement. The NFL is not going to move this game, so New Orleans must find a way to win under more trying circumstances.

No Taysom hill and Trevor Siemian has dominated the airwaves this week, but the Saints may have a big concern on the defensive side as well without both Demario Davis and Kwon Alexander. Can rookie Pete Werner step up into a shot-caller role? And will Zack Baun be the guy to line up beside him despite struggling in Week 2? The Saints will have most of their go-to secondary available, but ironman Malcolm Jenkins looks poised to miss the Monday Night showdown. How New Orleans plays to the strengths of what they have vs. being concerned with what they don't will decide this game.

The Saints will also be without key special teams players this week in Pro Bowler JT Gray andRB Dwayne Washington among others. Who will step up in their absence? And how working without Special Teams Coordinator Darren Rizzi impacts this game. The Carolina Panthers are losing players to their own concerns around COVID protocols, Brain Burns and Shaq Thompson highlight the list. But something to keep an eye on as the Saints and Panthers square off next weekend.

The New Orleans Saints had a lot of interest in Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book at last offseason's Senior Bowl, and even before. Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy had early indications of the Saints' interest in the talented rookie QB. He joins the show to talk about wha the team liked about him, his ability to quickly learn a playbook, and what he believes Book will bring to the NFL field.

No better person to hear from about Ian Book than Ian Book himself. Our friends at ABC 10 in Sacramento caught up with the Fight Irish alum just before the 2021 NFL Draft at his high school alma mater. Book discusses his influences, what he feels he does best on the field, and what he believes are his three best skillsets.

While the airwaves will be filled with conversation around Ian Book, there are other stories to be aware of. Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk were estimated to have missed practice on Thursday, and nine total names find their way to the COVID/Reserve list. Those names include starting safety Malcolm Jenkins, QBs. Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian, and more reserve offensive and defensive linemen. The team may need to be creative when it comes to depth and rotation on both sides of the ball.

The New Orleans Saints added quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian to the COVID/Reserve list Thursday morning leading to the expectation that rookie QB Ian Book will be the starter on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins. With Jameis Winston's season over on the injured reserve list, Book would be the fourth starting signal caller for the Saints.

Ian Book was a highly-coveted draft prospect by the New Orleans Saints beyond just his Senior Bowl performance. As the winningest quarterback in Notre Dame history, the Fighting Irish alum crafted a high profile which checked a lot of boxes for Sean Payton, Ronald Curry and even drew praise from Drew Brees himself.

Expect the Saints offense to look akin to what it did in the team's win over the New York Jets a pair of weeks ago. Condensed, quick-passing, simple reads, and a heavy dose of Alvin Kamara and the rushing attack. The defense led by Cam Jordan, Demario Davis, Marshon Lattimore and others will be key, however, there is expectation that more players could be added to the reserve list throughout the week.

The New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins square off on Monday Night Football and the Saints defense will be the key to a third straight win for the Saints. Tua Tagovailo and the Miami Dolphins are on a six-game win streak on the backs of an improved passing game and rushing defense. Can the Saints break the streak?

Marcus Davenport and Cam Jordan's disruptive defense will have to lead the way and force Miami to make mistakes. Marshon Lattimore, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Marcus Williams will have to be opportunistic and give the Saints offense extra possessions. Meanwhile, the offense will look to get healthier and more efficient that last week against the Bucs.

The hopeful return of Terron Armstead, Ryan Ramczyk, and Sean Payton will be worth watching throughout the week for New Orleans. The usage of Duke Johnson and status of safety Jevon Holland will be key for Miami. Two teams from opposing conferences each fighting for their playoff chances.

The New Orleans Saints weren't the most efficient offense in Sunday night's win, but they played a complementary, turnover-free game with their dominant defensive performance. Film study shows the unpredictability of the Saints' pressure packages on defense which led to Cam Jordan's two sacks and others added by Marcus Davenport and David Onyemata. The usage of second and third-level pressure threats kept the Buccaneers' offensive line off-balance.

The Saints' playoff hopes are alive and well after evening up at 7-7. Tied with the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans can control its own destiny by winning out, bu could use some help from from the Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, and Washington Football Team.

Brooke Kirchhofer of WWL-TV joins to talk about C.J. Gardner-Johnson's impact, the Saints defensive showing against the Bucs, and what to watch for ahead of the Monday night showdown with the Miami Dolphins coming to the Big Easy.

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cam Jordan became the 38th player in NFL history to amass at least 100 sacks in his career. With more good years left to play, is Jordan making a case for Hall of Fame consideration? Considering the company he's already in on some small and impressive lists, it certainly seems like he is.

While Cam Jordan sets himself up for future success, so is Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Thanks to a recent NFL rule change, teams like the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Las Vegas Raiders won't have to wait until the end of the season to pursue Allen, who raised his already high profile by shutting out Tom Brady and the Tampa Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.

The Saints defense was the story of Sunday night's NFC South matchup. While the defense as a unit was remarkably impressive, the individual performances that generated the dominant showing are too. Marshon Lattimore, Paulson Adebo, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson are playing like one of the best cornerback trios in the NFL with some help from veteran Bradley Roby. The Saints pass rush is regaining its efficacy with Cam Jordan, Marcus Davenport and David Onyemata creating some havoc all along the line. Meanwhile Demario Davis, Kwon Alexander, Malcolm Jenkins, and Marcus Davenport might not be filling the stat sheet, but they consistently took away options deep and over the middle. Two places where we're used to seeing former Saints defenses give up big plays.

With some potential reinforcements on the way, the Saints defense is catching fire at the right time.

The New Orleans Saints just pitched the shut out of the season over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady. The Saints defense led by Cam Jordan, Demario Davis, and Marshon Lattimore showed up big leading to the 9-0 win over the NFC South division foes, keeping the Bucs from clinching their NFC playoff spot and sewing up the division.

Dennis Allen and Pete Carmichael stepped up in the absence of head coach Sean Payton with an aggressive and effective defense with a measured and turnover-free offense. The Saints limited Tom Brady and his weapons with new looks on the defensive line with Marcus Davenport, Carl Granderson, and David Onyemata along with Cam Jordan who notched sack number 100.5 of his career. The coverage by C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Williams, and Malcolm Jenkins all stood out along with the sure tackling of Demario Davis and Bradley Roby.

With the defense's phenomenal performance, should we be worried about the Saints' offense? Our opinion, no need at this time. The Saints did what they needed to do to leave Tampa with a win on the leg of Brett Maher. Taysom Hill's turnover free game and reliable management throughout were exactly what was needed. And in doing so many have given Alvin Kamara a little bit of extra rest to help him close out the season.

The Saints' playoff hopes are alive and well after a surprise victory against the Bucs.

The New Orleans Saints will be without head coach Sean Payton this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will take on his role as head coach while offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael steps into playcalling responsibilities.

Dennis Allen was the best choice for the head coaching role based on his combination of NFL head coaching experience, institutional knowledge, and ability to maintain what the Saints do best - defense.

OC Pete Carmichael has been just as large a part of the Saints' offensive success since joining Sean Payton as anyone else. He has the ability to maintain the rhythm, cadence, and familiarity of a game called by Payton.

But what will potentially be lost in this game is Payton's fire, his risk-taking nature, and his situational specialization. Can the Saints overcome all of this plus injuries to upset the Bucs again?

The New Orleans Saints will square off with the division foe Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday night. In order to cap up another. big upset, the Saints will need a lot lot go right starting with playmakers Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill.

David Harrison of Locked On Bucs helps to break it all down with some fun moments throughout today's Locked On Saints. Can Marshon Lattimore, Demario Davis, and the rest of the Saints defense rattle Tom Brady enough to force him into the mistakes he often makes against the Saints? If the Saints defense can force them, will their offense be able to capitalize on them?

If the Saints want to get this win, the team has all the pieces it needs, but execution will be key. Generating turnovers, producing on offense, and forcing the Bucs into key decision-making moments on defense will all be a part of what it will take to knock off the current NFC South leaders.
