Locked On SEC – Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast

It is done. The SEC approves sticking with an 8-game football schedule in 2024, pushing back the plan to go to 9-games. I’ll tell you why I’m not really the biggest fan of this. The reason we got here: wanting more money in the tv contract, and some teams scared to go to nine.

And RIP to the SEC East and the SEC West. SEC divisions are going away in 2024, the conference will send the two teams with the best conference records to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game.

We'll also address some of the criticism the SEC is taking for the decision from the likes of Pat Forde. And we'll explain why the SEC schedule is still STRONG in 2024 because of some of the MONSTER non-conference games scheduled.

And the SEC introduces new penalties for teams who storm the field - spoiler alert, I still don't think it's going to deter teams from doing it!

On today's show, we run through some of the headlines from the first day of the SEC meetings in Destin. We run through quotes from Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Eli Drinkwitz, Hugh Freeze & more. Drinkwitz made headlines with a quote on NIL deals and his brother-in-law the pediatrician, Freeze & Billy Napier talked on tampering; while Saban, Kirby & Brian Kelly shared their thoughts on a potential 8 or 9 game conference schedule in 2024.

Also, the CBS set the game for their first "SEC on CBS" game of the season in Georgia vs South Carolina on September 16th. We also run through some of the potential other possibilities for SEC on CBS games that season.

And we run though some quotes from Commissioner Greg Sankey on why the SEC may stick with 8 conference games in 2024, instead of expanding to 9 games.

On today's show, the Georgia-Florida rivalry game is staying put in Jacksonville for at least the next few years. Is that the right decision? Do Georgia & Florida fans want to keep the game in Jacksonville?

And could the SEC look at further expansion? Greg Sankey talks about what would factor into that decision, and it has to do with geography. Could Miami, Florida State or Clemson get fed up with the ACC, and look for greener pastures? The SEC would make sense.

Also STOP MOVING COLLEGE GAMES OFF COLLEGE CAMPUSES! Michigan State and Penn State will play their end of year rivalry game at Ford Field in Detroit. What is the obsession with moving college games off of college campuses?

On today's show we get you caught up on news Around The Conference as Nick Saban sounds off on the state of college football, Greg McElroy talks his top four new SEC quarterbacks, and another Georgia player is arrested in Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.

Also, we run through ESPN's Bill Connelly's list of the Top 75 College Football QB's since the year 2000 - we count around 17 SEC quarterbacks who made the list. While some feel low like Dak Prescott at 72, or AJ McCarron at 67, it's who he lists in his top 10 that we have the biggest problem with. Joe Burrow, Tim Tebow and Cam Newton all belong in the Top 5, but we cannot BELIEVE who he ranked at #1 overall.
