Locked On SEC – Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast

On today's show, the Transfer Portal is officially open again in college football. What does it mean for your school? We're hitting on some of the latest SEC names to already enter the transfer portal including the Tennessee Vols' leading tackler from last season in linebacker Elijah Herring, who feels like he won't be a starter with Keenan Pili back for the Vols.

Also, Arkansas QB Jacolby Criswell is hitting the portal after it looks like the Hogs will roll with Taylen Green as a starter. Texas A&M linebacker Alex Howard is back in the portal after coming in this offseason from Youngstown State. Georgia running back Andrew Paul is in the portal as the Bulldogs appear to have nice depth ahead of him led by Trevor Etienne. Vanderbilt is losing wide receiver Josh Palmer and linebacker Dante Kelly who are hitting the portal. And Texas is losing edge Billy Walton and linebacker S'Maje Burrell as well as offensive lineman Payton Kirkland.

Lastly, we touch on what positions some SEC teams may be eyeing in this cycle of the transfer portal. And Arkansas decides to move their season opener vs Arkansas Pine-Bluff up to a Thursday kickoff.

On today's show, we are bringing you our takeaways from all EIGHT SEC Spring Games that took place this past Saturday. We start with Alabama, as we were very impressed with new wrinkles from Kalen DeBoer, and the run game looks to be dominant led by Jam Miller, Richard Young & Justice Haynes. Jalen Milroe has weapons everywhere, and the defense should be solid. Meanwhile, Georgia is loaded again as QB Carson Beck is back - I like what I saw from Dillon Bell, Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie. Trevor Etienne will be a stud at RB for them, and Mykel Williams and CJ Allen are back to wreak havoc defensively. At Florida, Graham Mertz is the veteran back at QB, but DJ Lagway certainly is impressive for being an early enrollee freshman. Trey Wilson is ready to be the go-to at WR, and Pup Howard on defense is fun to watch. For LSU, they should be an offensive machine again this time led by QB Garrett Nussmeier with weapons in Kyren Lacy and Zavion Thomas - but can the LSU defense be improved over last year?

In Knoxville, we saw Nico Iamaleava pick up where he left off for the Vols, Chris Brazzell will be another weapon to add to their arsenal. Can the Vols defense improve with a freshman stuf in Boo Carter, and rising LB in Edwin Spillman? I know it's just a Spring Game, but I love what we saw at Arkansas in new QB Taylen Green. Bobby Petrino has two awesome weapons in Green and transfer RB Ja'Quinden Jackson - get used to those names. At Kentucky, even though their game wasn't televised, we got to see clips and takeaways which said QB Brock Vandagriff was impressive connecting with Dane Key and Khamari Anderson. Tempo has been the key this offseason for the Wildcats. And Ole Miss held their Spring Game which was more "games" which included a dunk contest, tug of war, hog dog eating with Joey Chestnutt, and a flag football style game that QB Jaxson Dart get in some work following lower leg surgery this offseason.

Lastly, we touch on Kentucky basketball selling out Rupp Arena for a PRESS CONFERENCE as they introduced their new head coach in Mark Pope. Will Mark Pope win a title at UK? We don't know, but give the UK alum credit for not shying away from expectations in Lexington.

Is Mark Pope the right guy for Kentucky? We are joined by Jake Hatch of Locked on Cougars, who's covered Mark Pope throughout his time at BYU. We run through the resume of Mark Pope and find out what he's like when it comes to recruiting, X's and O's, and leading a college basketball team. Is this just a sentimental pick for Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhart?

And more importantly, with Pope having never won a tournament game as a head coach, can he lead Kentucky back to deep tourney runs and ultimately winning a championship? Will the Kentucky boosters back him and help with NIL? The 51-year old Pope will certainly have his work cut out for him in Lexington.

On today's show we discuss John Calipari dropping a farewell video to Big Blue Nation as Mitch Barnhart makes it official that Cal is leaving Kentucky. Could the Cats already be targeting Baylor coach Scott Drew as their next head coach? Do they still consider Billy Donovan and Sean Miller?

Also we catch up with Tye Richardson of Arkansas sports radio and HitThatLine.com as he talks about the Razorback perspective in turning the page from Eric Musselman and preparing to hire John Calipari. How excited are Hog fans? What resources will Cal get in Fayetteville? We break it all down on Locked On SEC.

On today's show, we discuss the latest on the aftermath of John Calipari leaving Kentucky for Arkansas as we are joined by Tristan Pharis of KYinsider.com. We discuss how quickly things came together for Arkansas, awkwardness of Calipari walking his dog in Lexington on Monday.

We also touch on the news that Kentucky freshman Aaron Bradshaw is entering the transfer portal, while top-25 recruit Karter Knox decommits from the Wildcats and reopens his recruitment. Who are the names at the top of the list for Kentucky to hire as their next head coach? Could it be UConn's Dan Hurley or Baylor's Scott Drew?

In addition, we hit on Arkansas' Trevon Brazile declaring for the NBA Draft, while also complimenting the Razorbacks' hire of Calipari. Also, Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr also jumps into the NBA Draft.

On today's show, we give you our takeaways from the Auburn Spring Game as Hugh Freeze heads into Year 2 on the Plains. All eyes were on the QBs as Payton Thorne made some good throws and showed off his running ability with some RPOs added to the playbook. Freshman WR Cam Coleman continues to impress this spring and should be a big time contributor in 2024. In addition, DJ Durkin's defense looks really solid, and the Auburn front seven shows a lot of promise. Lastly, freshman kicker Towns McGough was MVP of the day hitting all of his field goals including the game-winner.

We are also showing love to Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks as they are National Champions yet again. Staley wins her 3rd title as the SEC has now won three straight with the Gamecocks winning twice and Kim Mulkey and LSU winning in between. And Iowa's Cailtin Clark's career comes to an end without a championship.

Lastly, we touch on the magical run the Alabama men's basketball team had as Nate Oats' crew came up short in the Final Four loss to UConn. But an incredible run for the Tide as their future looks bright under Oats. And Arkansas officially lost Eric Musselman to USC, where do the Razorbacks go next?

We are discussing the breaking news that John Calipari is leaving Kentucky for the Arkansas Razorbacks. As we start the show, ESPN's Pete Thamel confirms that the move is happening, and reports say that the Hogs will make him one of the highest paid coaches in college basketball.

And what are some of the college basketball industry's biggest names saying about the reports? Was Calipari that unhappy in Lexington? Is the Tyson chicken family money that huge?

Where does Kentucky go from here? Are Cats fans happy he's leaving? Can they get Dan Hurley, Jay Wright or Scott Drew? Who does Mitch Barnhart call now?

The Final Four of the NCAA Tournament resulted in a pair of No. 1 seeds set to square off in the national championship game on Monday evening after Danny Hurley and the UConn Huskies took down Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide, a few hours after the Purdue Boilermakers ended the remarkable run by the NC State Wolfpack.

UConn and Purdue is the matchup everyone was anticipating, and the storylines are nearly endless: It's the first matchup of No. 1 seeds since Gonzaga and Baylor in 2021, it features a pair of centers over 7'2 in Zach Edey and Donovan Clingan, and it will either be a repeat national champion for the first time since Florida did it in 2006 and 2007, or it will be the second time ever a one seed has lost to a No. 16 seed and followed it up with a national championship the next year.

On today's show, we hit on the latest news that Eric Musselman is interviewing for the USC Trojans job and could be leaving Fayetteville for Southern Cal. Why would Musselman leave? Does Arkansas still want to keep him?

We talk about all the latest with our buddy John Nabors of Locked On Razorbacks as we discuss AD Hunter Yurachek's recent comments regarding Muss, and if he were to leave, who the Razorbacks target as their next head coach? Rumors list Ole Miss' Chris Beard, McNeese's Will Wade and Kansas State's Jerome Tang as the favorites.

Lastly, we touch on the historic television ratings pulled this week from the LSU-Iowa Elite 8 game, along with the South Carolina team as well. Women's basketball is definitely drawing more fans each year.
