The San Jose Sharks make a bold move, acquiring Carey Price's contract from the Montreal Canadiens. This strategic trade adds $10.5 million to the Sharks' salary cap while costing only $2 million in actual cash.

JD Young breaks down the intricacies of this deal, explaining how it benefits both teams. The Sharks gain significant cap flexibility, allowing them to stay comfortably above the salary floor even if they make additional trades. For the Canadiens, it's an opportunity to escape the LTIR situation, which has become less advantageous under new rules.

The host dives into the Sharks' current cap situation, now at $86,259,168 - about $18 million over the cap floor. This newfound flexibility opens doors for potential trades involving players like Alex Weinberg, John Klingberg, and Jeff Skinner. Young also explores the likelihood of signing prospect Michael Misa and how it might impact the team's roster.

Tune in to understand how this savvy move by GM Mike Greer could shape the Sharks' future and what it means for the team's rebuilding strategy.

Could the San Jose Sharks be this year's surprise playoff contender? JD Young explores tantalizing best-case scenarios for the Sharks' upcoming NHL season. From Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith potentially having breakout years to the impact of veteran additions like John Klingberg and Dmitry Orlov, Young paints an optimistic picture of the team's possibilities.

The host examines how goaltender Askarov's performance could be a game-changer, potentially elevating him to a top-10 netminder in the league. Young speculates on offensive improvements, particularly on the power play, and how the Sharks might leap from the NHL's worst offense to a top-15 unit.

Veteran players' contributions are scrutinized, with Young considering how strong performances could make them valuable trade assets or convince the team to re-sign them for future stability. The importance of finding more answers than questions for the Sharks' future is emphasized throughout the discussion.

Young also analyzes how improved team chemistry and a more stable system in the second year could significantly impact the Sharks' performance. He explores the potential for young talents like William Eklund and Michael Misa to gel with Celebrini and Smith, creating a formidable offensive core.

Tune in to hear Young's in-depth analysis of how these factors could align for a surprising San Jose Sharks season, potentially mirroring the Calgary Flames' unexpected playoff push from last year.

The NHL's new CBA rules are shaking up the San Jose Sharks' roster strategy. Could 19-year-old Sam Dickinson join the Barracuda this season? A game-changing amendment now allows one underage player per team in the AHL, potentially fast-tracking prospects' development. It's still waiting for final approval from the CHL, but it could allow Dickinson to continue his development in the AHL.

But that's not all - the league is cracking down on LTIR loopholes and paper transactions. Teams can no longer stash high-salaried players on LTIR for cap relief, with a new $4 million limit regardless of contract size. The days of shuffling players between NHL and AHL rosters for cap gymnastics are over too.

Salary retention rules are also getting an overhaul, impacting how the Sharks can leverage their cap space at the trade deadline. No more retaining salary on already-retained contracts within 75 days, closing a popular loophole.

Meanwhile, the Sharks' rookie camp roster is packed with potential. From Michael Misa to Jake Stuart (son of Sharks legend Brad), who will stand out and earn an AHL deal?

Tune in for an in-depth breakdown of these rule changes and how they'll reshape San Jose's roster moves this season and beyond.
