Locked On Sharks - Daily Podcast On The San Jose Sharks

Are the San Jose Sharks the worst team in the NHL? Early indications point to yes. Start by examining key metrics where the Sharks are among the league's worst despite having played fewer games than their counterparts and why there may not be room to grow in those departments. Next, look at how the Sharks could look to improve when they get healthier, more contributions from veteran players, and younger players continue to develop. Also, analyze where the Sharks could regress, mainly in goaltending. Finally, discuss Henry Thrun's demotion to the San Jose Barracuda and why it is a small step back now but could allow him a chance to get his feet under him.

The San Jose Sharks special teams sunk them as they fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3, but the young guns have been contributing. Start by examining Filip Zadina, Fabian Zetterlund, Thomas Bordeleau, and William Eklund's impact this young season and how they can be foundational pieces for the Sharks in the future. Then, analyzing the numbers in a weird game that saw nearly 20 minutes of special teams play and how the Nico Sturm line continues to produce. Finally, how did Mackenzie Blackwood look after his heroic performance against the Colorado Avalanche? And how can the Sharks look to produce some more sustained offense?

After one week of NHL action, who has seen their stock rise and fall for the San Jose Sharks, and how is the feeling about each of the groups. Start by examining the goaltending and how Mackenzie Blackwood's performance has elevated the goaltending room, and the overall depth at the AHL level makes the goaltending feel better than expected. Then, analyze the forwards and how Nico Sturm's no-nonsense play has rubbed off on his linemates Fabian Zetterlund and Givani Smith. Also, look at how Mike Hoffman and Anthony Duclair have gotten off to a slow start, while Filip Zadina has been one of the Sharks' better forwards. Then, dive into whether the forward group has started slower than expected. Finally, which defensive pairing has been better than expected, and how the Sharks' defense is still performing as expected.

The San Jose Sharks open their season with a 4-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. Start with how the Sharks looked good for about 30 minutes but then Vegas showed why they are a Stanley Cup contender. Then, get into Filip Zadina's Sharks debut, plus how William Eklund, Thomas Bordeleau, and Henry Thrun looked. Next, examine what the stats said for the Sharks and how the fourth line of Nico Sturm, Givani Smith, and Fabian Zetterlund was the best line of the night, and if the Sharks might have an issue with the Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Matt Benning pairing. Finally, how was Kaapo Kahkonen's night in net, and what tweaks could David Quinn make especially if Mikael Granlund is out for Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche?

Could Tomas Hertl hit 75 points? Can the power play be better? Before the start of the regular season, make some bold predictions about the San Jose Sharks. Start with why Hertl could be primed for a career year despite the absence of Timo Meier and Erik Karlsson. Next, why the Sharks' power play could end up in the top half of the league and also lead the league in short-handed goals. Examine why the increased depth will lead to a more balanced attack and why the Chaos Approach is here to stay. Then why the Sharks will re-sign Alexander Barabanov or Anthony Duclair but not both this season. Finally, get caught up on the news and notes from San Jose and find a realistic timeline to see Logan Couture back. Then, recap the San Jose Barracuda media availability and what's ahead for players like Gannon Laroque and Artem Guryev.

The San Jose Sharks are close to finalizing their opening night roster after a series of moves over the weekend. Start by examining the forward group and the moves that still need to come, including sending Logan Couture to IR. Then, what the lines should look like on Thursday night when the Sharks host the Vegas Golden Knights and which players could be at risk of being sent down when Couture returns. Next, determine what the Sharks will do at the blue line to get to the roster compliant, including putting Radim Simek and Nikita Okhotiuk on IR. And what it means for Henry Thrun as he is the one waivers exempt defenseman but has been arguably the Sharks' best defender in training camp. Finally, check in on the San Jose Barracuda latest roster updates and why they are set up to be a factor in the Pacific Division.
