The Atlanta Falcons have been bit by the injury bug as we’ve learned that Casey Heyward has been sent to the injured reserve list because of a shoulder injury. Arthur Smith and Dean Pees will be looking to guys like Darren Hall and Dee Alford to step into Heyward’s role. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about how the Falcons are prepared to go with what they have, but if the right move comes along, Terry Fontenot won’t be scared to pick up the phone. Also, they discussed whether or not they will be watching the MLB playoffs now that the Atlanta Braves are out. Secondly, the Atlanta Hawks open the season against the Houston Rockets tonight at State Farm Arena. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray are the names that everyone will be paying attention to. The Atlanta Hawks were able to get a deal done with De’Andre Hunter right before the league deadline. Hunter still has some questions about his availability ever since he came into the league. When Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith were brought into the fold, the salary cap was one thing that the Atlanta Falcons knew they had to address immediately. One way to address it was to make sure that they drafted well. The 2022 NFL Draft class is already starting to show that Fontenot and Smith made the right choices. Jarvis Davis and Andy Bunker talked about how Arnold Ebiketie and Troy Anderson have already shown that they were worth being drafted in the second round. Secondly, the Atlanta Hawks signed De’Andre Hunter to a four-year, 95-million-dollar deal before their deadline last night. Hunter has struggled to stay on the court since being the fourth overall pick for the Hawks in the 2019 NBA Draft. Jarvis Davis and Andy Bunker talked about whether or not this is the move that makes the Hawks contenders in the Eastern Conference for years to come. Also, they talked about what John Collins’ role will be this season. Lastly, Inside The NBA is arguably the best, longest running studio show to come across our airwaves. Charles Barkley just agreed to stay on the show for the foreseeable future with Kenny Smith, Ernie Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal. The Atlanta Braves were kicked out of the playoffs by the Philadelphia Phillies. Their exit was eerily similar to the 2003 Braves loss to the Chicago Cubs. Jon Chuckery talked about how this year’s loss brought back up bad memories as a Braves’ fan. Secondly, the Braves have some big decisions to make when it comes to Dansby Swanson. The Braves have been very deliberate about how they spend their money. Jon Chuckery talked about how Swanson might just be the exception to the Braves’ rule. Lastly, the Atlanta Falcons drafted Arnold Ebiketie in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Ebiketie got a chance to start for the first time against the San Francisco 49ers. Jon Chuckery talked about how the more Ebiketie plays, the better he will be as far as sacking the quarterback.

The Falcons may have a good problem on their hands w/ Marcus Mariota. If the Falcons make the playoffs, can they still move on from Mariota after this season or are they obligated to keep him? It's really hard to move on from a QB that took you to the playoffs because often, there isn't a clear upgrade. This is something to monitor as things go along. The Hawks re-signed DeAndre Hunter last night and it's a little confusing because I'm not sure what the plan is for this team. They spoke so much about getting better and they've basically brought back the entire core group w/ the addition of Dejounte Murray. However, in a way this could make Hunter more trade-able down the road. Finally, the Braves say they want to be a top 5 payroll team. That makes fans think that Dansby is back ... I'm thinking it means someone different.

The Atlanta Braves were bounced out of the playoffs by the streaking Philadelphia Phillies. Spencer Strider and Charlie Morton had early exits, and the Braves’ bats were asleep throughout the entire NLDS. Dansby Swanson had an emotional moment at his locker room afterwards. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about how the Braves got punched in the face and they discussed how it may happen again in the offseason. Secondly, the Atlanta Falcons were able to punish the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Mercedes Benz stadium. Marcus Mariota had his best performance of the 2022 season. Jaylinn Hawkins had a fumble recovery for a touchdown and an interception to help propel the defense past a Kyle Shanahan-led offense. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about Mariota proving the haters wrong for at least this week and they discussed who else stepped up in the big victory. Lastly, Joe Simpson has always been known to give his opinion about certain topics. Simpson called out Ronald Acuna Jr. for not backing up his teammate, Michael Harris II. Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste questioned where his comments came from and they discussed a big event that took place in both of their lives over the weekend in For The Culture.

The Atlanta Falcons jumped out on the San Francisco 49ers and got a win at home at Mercedes Benz stadium. Arthur Smith was able to get off to a good start on Sunday. Jon Chuckery talked about Dean Pees’ defense being the main reason the Falcons were able to get a win. Also, Chuckery gave a very telling stat about Marcus Mariota. Secondly, Arthur Smith has made it very clear that their identity is to be able to run the ball successfully and use play action to throw the football down the field. The Falcons are attempting to throw the football 30% less than the league average. Jon Chuckery talked about whether or not the Falcons can sustain this type of success. Lastly, the Falcons have slowed down since the beginning of the season when it comes to sacking the quarterback. The Falcons did not sack Jimmy Garopollo on Sunday. The one sack that they did have was negated by a Lorenzo Carter holding penalty. Jon Chuckery talked about how this very similar to what happened in the 2021 season.

The Falcons put together an impressive win yesterday and Marcus Mariota was at the center of it. Mariota played his best game of the year, and the Falcons are now rushing for more yards per game than they are passing. The Falcons and Giants are the only teams in the NFL to run for more yards than they pass and not have a losing record. Next, the Braves season came to a disappointing end as they were knocked out of the playoffs by the Phillies. The bottom line is that when you are a team that lives off the home run, you're going to get beat in the playoffs often because good pitching does enough to keep you in the ballpark. The Braves bats went cold. Their starting pitching was bad. And now they are done for 2022. Finally, it was a wild weekend in college football and the SEC was at the center of it. How worried should UGA be about Tennessee? We will find out.
