Arizona State Sun Devils football struggled to move the ball through the air last season with tons of factors involved including bad quarterback play, injuries, and the play calling itself. It hasn't been done any favors heading into this year with Jaden Rashada and Elijhah Badger entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, but the Sun Devils still have some talent at the wide receiver position even with Badger's departure. One of those guys is Jordyn Tyson, who missed last season while recovering from a leg injury he sustained in 2022 with Colorado. Tyson is one of the most physically gifted players across any position for Arizona State Sun Devils football and a healthy version of himself could give the team the juice they need through the air this season. There is a lot of projection when talking about Tyson, but in theory, he could become the WR1 that the Sun Devils desperately need in 2024. The Big 12 Conference has plenty of talent for the upcoming football season and Arizona State Sun Devils football will have its work cut out for it in trying to make a splash from day one. The Sun Devils are coming off consecutive three-win seasons, but the difference from 2022 to 2023 was staggering under Kenny Dillingham. A move from the PAC-12 Conference to the Big 12 Conference could pay massive dividends for the Sun Devils but year one won't be easy. Kenny Dillingham faces a big season ahead of him and Arizona State Sun Devils football in 2024. Dilly will be tasked with taking the Sun Devils from the PAC-12 Conference to the Big 12 Conference following a conference realignment, where the competition is stiffer and the schedule is no joke. The defense should be a good unit again in 2024, but Dillingham will need to take the offense a few steps forward from last year's performance, and the run game could be the key to doing so. The Sun Devils have no shortage of talent in the backfield with potential superstars Cameron Skattebo and Raleek Brown waiting to break out, but their depth is equally as impressive. Veteran DeCarlos Brooks returns after playing four games last season, and he was very good in those four games. Sophomore Kyson Brown is also back after showing flashes as a freshman. The Sun Devils made two big offseason splashes with former AAC Rookie of the Year Alton McCaskill and four-star freshman Jason Brown to make a deep room even deeper. With six guys in the backfield who could all justify serious playing time, Arizona State Sun Devils football must look at the room and realize that the run game could likely be the key to the 2024 season. Arizona State Sun Devils football is set to field perhaps the deepest running back room they've had in a long time. Cameron Skattebo, a.k.a. The Big 12 Conference revealed their preseason rankings as well as their preseason All-Big 12 Conference Teams. While Arizona State Sun Devils football was not represented as well as we'd like them to be, they were flat-out disrespected. Voters placed Arizona State Sun Devils football last of all 16 teams and didn't have a single player represented on their preseason All-Conference Team. Considering the unproven talent, the latter can be understood, but the former feels unreasonable. Although the program is coming off consecutive three-loss seasons, the difference in play from Herm Edwards' 2022 team to Kenny Dillingham's 2023 team is staggering. The Sun Devils were a night-and-day better program that gave plenty of teams hell, even if it didn't result in wins. Regardless, the Sun Devils as a whole improved even with the departures of Jaden Rashada, Elijhah Badger, and B.J. Green. In his first season with Arizona State Sun Devils football, Cameron Skattebo was arguably the best and most important player for Arizona State Sun Devils football on offense. Skattebo's efficiency as a runner and pass catcher and his prowess for getting into the end zone and even taking snaps under center made him an irreplaceable weapon.
