Locked On Titans - Daily Podcast On The Tennessee Titans

Robert Saleh's TOP OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR candidates were revealed on Thursday and the list is sure to excite fans. Along with a name we know like Brian Daboll, the list also includes Kliff Kingsbury, who would be the TOP OPTION available for Cam Ward. However, with the potential for new names, some old names had to go like coordinators Nick Holz and Dennard Wilson. Neither should be a surprise as a total overhaul was due in Nashville. We did get word of a few people staying though like Bones Fassel and Tony Oden. Along with that news, the Titans made the hire of Robert Saleh official on Thursday, ending a slight panic from fans due to the time is took for the team to make a statement. Words from Saleh, Amy Adams Strunk, Mike Borgonzi and notably, NOT Chad Brinker, all should have fans very excited for the future ahead.

The Tennessee Titans desperately need a top-level offensive coordinator and one may be on the way in the form of Brian Daboll. Daboll is reportedly between the Buffalo Bills head coaching gig and the Titans' OC job. However, the Buffalo Bills might have helped the Titans on Wednesday with an embarrassing press conference that should scare any good coach away. Also, Daboll is the last top-notch candidate with Mike McDaniel off the board and Kliff Kingsbury unlikely to be interested. Typically, new coaches pull from their previous coaching staff, but that might be difficult for Robert Saleh as Kyle Shanahan is known to be petty about losing coaches. No matter the coaches, the Titans certainly shouldn't want Brandon Aiyuk in Tennessee and they should stay away at all costs. Finally, Jeffery Simmons spoke on a recent podcast and put the hammer to Brian Callahan and his lack of accountability as a leader. This should be no shock, but it should also have Titans fans even more excited about the pivot to Saleh.

The Tennessee Titans finally got their head coach in Robert Saleh and now they need to turn their focus to the most important next step which is hiring an offensive coordinator. Mike McDaniel may be a long shot, but he is clearly the best option on the board. McDaniel isn't the only top option though as Brian Daboll, Kliff Kingsbury and Bobby Slowik also fit the bill. There are other options that are good, but certainly less enticing like Mike LaFleur, Klay Kubiak and Arthur Smith. However, those names are more realistic. Finally, there are some names from the previous Tennessee Titans coaching staff who could potentially be holdovers like Luke Stocker, Frank Bush and, of course, Jon Bones Fassel. However, names like Dennard Wilson and Luke Holz will be gone.

BREAKING: The Tennessee Titans have hire Robert Saleh as their next head coach!!! Saleh is an excellent choice and represents a pure leader that also happens to be a gifted schematic defensive mind. Saleh legitimizes the Titans and gives them a chance to build a winning culture going forward. Props are owed to general manager Mike Borgonzi as well for not going the easy path and hiring Matt Nagy. Saleh brings his defensive mind and a great ability to inspire the locker room, making him a perfect fit for what the Titans needed and he also has the ability to lessen his offensive deficiency with his connections to some of the best offensive minds in the NFL. The process has been hectic for the Titans and things were not as easy as thought to be, but the Titans came out with a great coach who is a massive upgrade and this should give Titans fans a lot of optimism going forward about the future of the franchise, even though Saleh is not a perfect candidate. Now, the Titans will turn their focus to building out a staff for Saleh, which creates a new level of intrigue all on it's own. WE GOT HIM FOLKS!!!

The Tennessee Titans could have gotten incredibly lucky as the Buffalo Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott on Monday. McDermott would be a homerun hire for the Titans and could save them from the floundering position they are currently in. The Titans would be taking a major risk by going after McDermott, but it is a worthy risk to take. Especially because their other two options are Robert Saleh and Matt Nagy. Neither is as proven of a coach as McDermott, but both have pros and cons as potential fits. The reality is though, Saleh has way more going for him and would be a much better selection. Mike McCarthy is the forgotten man here and a lot of Titans fans are wondering why. Answering that question is probably as simple as the Titans don't see McCarthy as as good of a fit as Nagy and Saleh, even if that is hard to believe. With all of the news swirling, odds are the Titans will have a new coach by Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

The Tennessee Titans had multiple finalists for their head coaching be reported, but the reality is, most of the names we heard are never getting hired and in fact, they seem to be using the Titans to get a contract from the team they actually want. That means either Mike Borgonzi is getting played by their agents, or the Titans are playing their fan base and intended on hiring Matt Nagy all along. Speaking of Nagy, his candidacy, continues to improve by the day simply through a reduction of available finalist. Nagy would be a disaster hire and showcase the Titans have never truly gotten out of the "buddy hire" mentality that got them in this spot in the first place. Mike McCarthy also had an extensive visit with the Titans over the weekend, but now the Titans have competition for him as well with the Pittsburgh Steelers jumping in the pit. Finally, the Titans have a virtual interview with Robert Saleh on Sunday and he represents one of the last remaining hopes for Titans fans to avoid Matt Nagy, along with Mike McDaniel, who seems far less likely.

The Tennessee Titans missed out on John Harbaugh as he went to the New York Giants, but this is no time for Titans fans to panic. Harbaugh was a good choice, but he isn't the ONLY choice and there are downsides to Harbaugh that Titans fans need to admit are real. Also, everyone is focused on the quarterback, but the reality is everything else the Giants brought to the table mattered more. With Harbaugh off the table though, the Titans need to quickly look elsewhere and Mike McCarthy, Kevin Stefanski and Robert Saleh are the best remaining coaches. All of them are scheduled or have completed an interview. This also gives us a window into the next round of the hiring cycle as the Titans finalist should be coming out by Monday and Tyler takes a crack at who he thinks makes the list. Finally, a lot of Titans fans are once again taking aim at owner Amy Adams Strunk and once again, the hate is misplaced. Losing out on Harbaugh cannot be blamed on ownership as she was prepared to do what it took to sign Harbaugh, is possible.

The Tennessee Titans were one of the three teams in the John Harbaugh Sweepstakes, but all the noise over the past 24 hours indicates that Harbaugh will be taking the job with the New York Giants. While that may be disappointing, Harbaugh was far from a perfect candidate and his interest continues to prove the Titans are one of the most desirable jobs in the NFL. The Titans had former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel in for an interview on Wednesday. This is significant news not only because it is another in-person session, but because it means the Titans have satisfied the Rooney Rule and can legally hire a coach, even if we shouldn't expect it soon. Finally, the Tennessee Titans cannot afford to trade for a head coach whether that be Mike Tomlin, or more appropriately, Matt Lafleur. They simply don't have the resources to spend prime draft capital on a coach with so many available.

Mike Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the NFL over the last 20 years and while the Tennessee Titans might jump at the opportunity to hire him, the reality of the situation is Tomlin is not an option for the Titans or anyone else. They may sound like bad news, but this Steeler opening is not as good as the Titans and it should not impact the Titans ability to get the best candidate. The Titans are now up to 19 candidates in their coaching search and not all of them would have been seriously considered as head coach options, which makes you wonder who among the names would actually make sense as a coordinator. Kliff Kingsbury and Mike McDaniel would be the best options on the offensive side of the ball, but on defense, Raheem Morris and Johnathan Gannon also have a great resume.
