In 2019, a public inquiry was launched to investigate what happened when former soldier Lionel Desmond, who suffered from PTSD, killed three family members and himself in rural Nova Scotia. The inquiry set out to answer whether he and his family had access to appropriate mental health and domestic violence intervention services before their deaths.
