Pursuing a career while having and raising small children (and completing a Master's degree), has presented many challenges (unsurprising), especially in the field of Cultural Resource Management Archaeology. Ever since I started making fitness a priority, I have always made use of a gym. But what can we do when we do not have access to a gym space? In my case, this is related to broad business closures across the country this year; but perhaps you are not in a position to afford a gym membership, or are too scared to join a gym. In this episode I run through some of the ways I have adapted my fitness routine to being solely home-based. I offer a few simple ways to get regular daily movement in, and some strategies to adapt strength training to the home. I wanted to have an episode that discussed the complex situation that many parents are facing at this time - in school or virtual learning? What led us to make our decision? How long will it last? Benefits? I go through a long list of concerns and realities of having a child in school during these crazy times - a reality that I plan to revisit soon-ish as we expect things will change in the not so distant future.

In this episode I explore my journey to better understand the ways that patriarchy keeps us in our boxes, and focus specifically on raising my son as a feminist/anti-patriarchy. I questions how my son (and boys in general) fit into the modern understanding of feminism, and the ways patriarchy uniquely impacts him/them. While there is much work to be done with respect to supporting women and girls, I argue that there is similarly a lot of work ahead of us in getting at the true meaning of gender equality, including recognizing that gender goes beyond the binary.
