My year in review, and plans for 2021!

Building a strong foundation for discussing sexuality with our kids is essential. In this episode I outline what I find most important to begin discussing with our children in order to build up this foundation and lead to further conversations, including naming genitals, bodily autonomy, and consent. I highlight two books I have regularly used to facilitate these conversations with my kids; What Makes a Baby by Cory Silverberg and Girl Sex 101 by Allison Moon. In this episode I talk about the parenting philosophy I have been implementing for a few years now - RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers), and some of the ways I implement this philosophy. I walk through my personal visualization for handling my children's heightened emotional states, and I discuss some of the emotional things I am working through with my kids. I wanted to further explore the idea of "being in shape", a phrase I had used in my previous episode, because I felt it was ambiguous and fraught with assumptions. In preparation for this episode I read the book Body Respect by Linda Bacon and Lucy Aphramor, which deals with misconceptions around fatness and health. I offer commentary on the books core concepts, and how fitness relates to the field of archaeology. Bottom line: the notion of being in shape does not mean one has to conform to a particular shape or size!
