Alasdair brings out the big Scottish guns: Ranald McDanald AND Donald McRonald and shares the tales of two Scotsmen who fought on opposing sides at the Battle of Cullodden.

Donald Ban of the Bogan wound up haunted by a ghostly Sid James, while Duncan Campbell of Inverawe was cursed to live in fear of a mysterious place - "Ticonderoga".

It's season four of Loremen! It's 4oremen. 4men? Either way, we're one man short of opening a profitable burger chain. And it's time for William Adams 2: The Secret of the Ooze.

The first Englishman in Japan is starting to get comfortable in his new home/prison, but he is about to run into Jesuits, the East India Company and a particularly unpleasant maritime pornographer. Prepare yourself for a tale of hubris, smooth-talkers and a very rude misreading of 'Three Mile Island'.

For a more fulsome (and less silly) telling of the story, James's main source for this episode was Giles Milton's wonderful book, Samurai William.

Content Warning: No new willies are pulled off in this episode. But we do reference the willy-pulling in S3 Ep107.

Content warning - we say "willy" a LOT

In 1600, William Adams was the first Englishman to visit Japan. Little was known about Japan at that time, apart from IN Japan where they knew pretty much all about it. In this, Part One of Adams's tale, we follow what must be one of history's most meandering, misbegotten and (probably) malodorous sea voyages.

They really did not plan it well.

The Loreboys are also exploring unknown territory with this, our first 2-part episode. The full story of William Adams was simply too long and revolting for a single episode. Part Deux will be with you in two weeks' time, because we're going to take next week off and have a little rest.

Seaton Delaval Hall was once home to Sir Francis Blake Delaval - the man who puts the "pranks" in "I am sick of this guy's terrible pranks". But, although living with Sir Francis must have been a nightmare, it doesn't compare to the gruesome tale he told of the Wallsend Witches.

At the stroke of midnight, the Loreboys meet a gaggle of hags in the old church. We learn why Hadrian's Wall is so jumpable, and how to spot Jeremy Beadle in disguise.

This episode was originally a livestream/shambles, beset by jetlag and the untimely demise of the Loremen laptop/loretop. But it came out surprisingly OK!
