Luigi Mangione, the suspect charged with the ambush-style murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has made his first public statement from jail, thanking supporters who have written to him. 

Mangione, facing charges of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, allegedly shot Thompson from behind on a Manhattan sidewalk in December. Authorities say Mangione used a ghost gun with a suppressor, leaving behind bullet casings etched with cryptic words. 

As officials condemn his actions, Mangione’s writings reveal deep grievances with the healthcare system.
