You might have heard the ads running on Cape Talk alerting homeowners to the latest deadline around Asbestos and its removal from buildings in South Africa. We’ve had a couple of listeners asking for more information, so we thought today we’d focus on the issue with two expert guests who can advise us on the latest developments and answer any lingering questions you might have.
Delighted to welcome in studio Geoffrey Jack who is managing director of the Indawo Group which includes a number of companies involved in the construction industry, and is an approved asbestos contractor who can answer questions about how to remove asbestos
We also have with us on the line Celia Keet of Occupational Hygiene Monitoring Services who can speak to the legal requirements and why they have been implemented.

AMY FOUNDATION
It’s my great pleasure to welcome to the studio today Kevin Chaplin who is the director of the Amy Foundation. Formerly the Amy Biehl Foundation, the non-profit was established in the 90’s as a tribute to Amy Biehl, the young American student who was killed in Gugulethu shortly before South Africa’s first democratic election. Set up by her parents to honour Amy’s commitment to reconciliation, today the foundation offers multi-pronged interventions that aim to empower and encourage youngsters living in some of Cape Town’s most vulnerable communities

CHESS DAY
Today Eugene Steenkamp of the Elsies River Chess Club talks about World Chess Day, officially marked by the United Nations to recognize the game’s global reach and positive impact, as well as its ability to transcend barriers of race, age, culture and gender.
Humans have been playing chess for over 1500 years – the game is thought to have its roots in northern India in the 6th century, with a game called chaturanga. It spread from there to Persia, and from there into Europe, Russia and beyond. Today millions of people play the game regularly all over the world, and in fact there has been a surge in numbers of late thanks in no small part to the growth of online chess tournaments during the early days of lockdown.
Today I want to talk about chess here in Cape Town and particularly about efforts to get youngsters in underprivileged areas to play the game.

In today's music segment we feature the sounds of up and coming songstress, Simone Toweel.
She may only 16, but her voice and singing abilities will have you wondering whether Adele just released a new single. The young songbird has been singing since the age of three, when her family moved from Johannesburg to the North Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal. She has more recently relocated to Cape Town, and her new song emulates some of the feelings she felt during this move. Simone is set on sharing her positive spirit with others through her music, building once- in-a-lifetime moments along the way.
The song could not be loaded on the interview for licensing agreements
