In the second half of this two-part interview episode, I spoke with my strength coach and dear friend, Bret Contreras, from a much more intimate perspective on what it's like being "The Glute Guy" as one of the best strength coaches of all time. Bret is a prominent figure in glute training. He invented the barbell hip thrust, among several other innovative exercises, drawing inspiration from his competitive nature and sibling rivalry with his twin brother. Fueled by a high school experience marked by bullying, Bret developed a passion for strength training, using it as a means of personal empowerment.
Bret’s commitment to building strength as a response to bullying evolved into a broader advocacy against modern-day bullies. As a leader in the fitness industry, he has continued to showcase his efforts through scientific research with over 50 peer-reviewed studies. His impact on the fitness community extends beyond the gym, as evidenced by his time spent writing for T Nation. In the age of social media, he further expanded his influence, using platforms like Instagram and YouTube to share his expertise globally.
Stay tuned for the second part of this interview, as we get much more personal with Bret and the sides to him that I get to experience on a deeper level, as a close friend and part of the Glute Squad.
You can find Bret online through his website www.bretcontreras.com and on social media @bretcontreras1 to learn more about his online training programs, published research studies, and innovate strength equipment.
