This story is about a risk to dogs and other pets -- from a common household item and the consequences can be deadly. On the weekend, listener Ian Reid wrote to us, hoping to raise awareness about a problem he did not foresee. His email says, in part:
"I lost a beloved dog this weekend due to suffocation from a chip bag. It was tragic, quick, devastating and so unnecessary. Quick research on the internet shows that this is the most common cause of pet strangulation."
To talk more about this, we reached out to Bonnie Harlan after finding out about her non-profit organization, which is called: Prevent Pet Suffocation. Bonnie is located in Texas, and she receives emails and requests from people all over the world whose pets have suffocated in food packaging. She had a very similar experience, which prompted her to start her non-profit. She spoke with guest host, Alex Guye.
Guest host Alex Guye speaks with Alvero Wiggins, and Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard.
Nova Scotian journalist Stephen Maher, author of "The Prince: The turbulent reign of Justin Trudeau," speaks with guest host Alex Guye.
An extended version of Alex Mason's conversation with Kimberly Murray. From 2022 until 2024, she was the federally appointed Independent Special Interlocutor For Missing Children & Unmarked Graves & Burial Sites Associated With Indian Residential Schools. Digging through a dusty attic can uncover forgotten treasures. In Karen Harper's case, it sent her on an adventure exploring her family's history. Karen's adventure is culminating in a visit to Cambridge University next month to see a play her grandfather wrote 70 years ago be performed on stage for the first time.
Michelle Coffin, Chris Lydon, and Barbara Emodi drop into Studio A to talk with guest host Alex Guye.
Polluting education: a new study reveals the surprising role the fossil fuel industry has in teaching our children about climate change. CBC's Rose Murphy spoke to report co author Anne Keary about the need to kick big oil out of the classroom and implement comprehensive, science-based climate education across the country.
