My guest today is Julia, a listener with her fourth little one due anytime. She asks really good questions! We chat about learning in the early years with just young children, should we do a reading program when our child is already fluently reading and how to respond when moms start talking about what curriculum they use.
Julia also asks me how I got started on this particular journey of child led learning. We talk about science with young kids, and working in art and music...and the big question...
What do we do next??
Join Julia and I for a fun conversation about homeschooling in the early years.

I started binge listening to Fallon and her co-host Kori a month or so ago, when my daughter told me about their work. Fallon, homeschool mom and a woman who wants to help you to optimal nutrition, shares her story of healing and her passion in the quest for women's health. Among so many other things, well nourished women have more energy, more stable moods, higher quality sleep...wait...those are all the things you need, am I right?
But it the middle of it all, the whole point is JOY. Nutrition should be beautiful, not frustrating. Joyful, not a chore. Thank you, Fallon, for your gifts.
Join us while we overshare.

Today I interview Sylvia Dorham, children's author. The beginning of the interview had a glitch so we miss some of Sylvia's biographical information!
Sylvia is a Catholic mother of ten, who has a great love of beauty and recognizes that we learn better through rhythm, rhyme and beauty. We discuss her "Monks" books and her newest book, Our Lady, Undoer of Knots.
Sylvia Dorham’s accomplishments are best summarized in the words, "wife" and "mother." She appreciates truth, goodness and beauty and is grateful for skilled artists with whom she can collaborate.

In this episode, dedicated and darling listener, Bianca, brings her questions (and her baby boy!) to the show. We focus on our kid's faith. When they're little, they just gotta go with what their parents do, but as they get older, what? We talk about why I don't talk about my adult kids, and building a family culture. We also address what it's like to be shallow: the pros, the cons. I know you're dying to know.
2:14 - Welcome Bianca! Faith and family background
12:17 - How can faith be maintained for our kids as they get older?

Well, how does this play into creating the kinds of homes we want to raise our families in? In my opinion - HUGE. Chaos undermines kindness. Order is a form of beauty, and order in our brains, and reducing brain clutter makes us more available to the people that we love. Because I have a scrambly sort of brain, I had to find ways to record what we do and how we educate that was simple and sustainable. This is part one, part two will deal more with high school and creating a transcript.
00:15 - Keeping things less chaotic, bringing peace and order into the home
4:17 - Plotting out the school year, learning as a family and for individual children
14:06 - Wrapping up the school year
16:03 - Weekly record keeping sheet
18:13 - How much do we need to keep track?

The Church is experiencing a profound renewal — a new springtime of faith. But what does that look like in your home? In your parish? In your daily life?
We are living in a time of…
Let's explore what it means to live as an authentic Catholic family in our time: the beauty of the Faith, the reality of raising children in Christ, the struggles and triumphs of Catholic life, and how ordinary families become instruments of the New Evangelization. From marriage and parenthood to education and community, let's look at how joy—rooted in Christ and His Church—might become the normal rhythm of Catholic life.
Let's usher in the New Springtime Pope John Paul II proclaimed. Catholic family life doesn't have to look perfect to be beautiful. The world doesn't need more noise. It needs to see Catholics living with conviction, charity, and contagious joy.
Let's make joy normal.
