  • 477 || strategies || time savers (that actually work)

How to limit your time wasters:

    Social

    • Take advantage of voice-to-text features such as transcribed voicemails or to make notes or draft emails and text messages when you are on the go.
    • Avoid small talk. Stay focused.
    • Take any necessary action immediately following a call.
    • Impose screen time limits and regularly monitor your digital wellness (see Strategy 10).
    • Schedule breaks from your devices.

    Email

    • Set aside a specific time to view and respond to email, but don’t let it accumulate to the point it becomes overwhelming to sort.
    • Turn off notifications for email.
    • Handle each item only once if possible.
    • Immediately delete or unsubscribe from junk emails.
    • Keep address books up-to-date and organized.
    • Utilize built-in shortcuts to sort email.

    Unexpected Visitors

    • Schedule time for face-to-face visits.
    • Inform visitors of your time constraints and politely offer to reschedule.
    • Set a mutually agreeable time limit for the visit.
    • When someone comes to the door, stand up and have your meeting standing to help keep it brief.

    In-Person and Virtual Meetings

    • Know the purpose of the meeting in advance.
    • Arrive early.
    • Start and end the meeting on time.
    • Prepare an agenda and stick to it. Use a timed agenda, if necessary.
    • Don’t schedule meetings unless they are necessary and have a specific purpose or agenda.
    • Use recording software or designate a note-taker.

    Family Obligations

    • Use and sync virtual calendars for easy sharing between busy family members.
    • Make each family member responsible for consulting the master calendar for potential conflicts.

    • Create a central area or agreed upon app for posting communications such as appointment reminders, announcements, and messages.

  • 476 || find someone who commits to the same shit

Found in the notes of my phone - Good relationships come from two people who are committed. The same level of commitment surpasses most other qualities. And It doesn’t necessarily mean committed to each other.

It could be committed to lifelong growth and work together.

It could be committed to the same style of dating or partnership.

it could EVEN be the same level of commitment at different paces.

as long as there is the same level of commitment to communication in the meantime.

I would much rather die alone making myself happy than fighting + failing to make the wrong person happy instead.

When you look for people who are willing to put the work in - you find people who don’t run when they’re afraid and who communicate big feelings when they can. Even if they are less emotionally mature - commitment to the same type of growth and understand ding and core values is where the money is.

  • Day 474 || how to be less judgy

This therapy quick tip Thursday brings us the concept of the fundamental attribution error - which refers to an individual's tendency to attribute another's actions to their character or personality, while attributing their own personal behaviors to external situational factors outside of their control.

In other words, we tend to cut ourselves a break while holding others 100 percent accountable for their actions. For instance when a driver cut you off - they’re an asshole but when you cut someone off, it was because you misjudged traffic + it was a one time thing.

we should offer others the same courtesy of the gentlest possible interpretation, if we can + have no other reason to doubt them.

65% subject blamed behavior on others when bad things happening but blame self only 44% and situation more often.

  • Day 472 || fun ways to improve your memory + don't be a story-writer

If you want to remember things, add some emotional stakes. Try memorizing the grocery list with a theatrical narrative storyline, and see how you make out!

Also, I derail into an important idea about storywriting for others and allowing them to reveal themselves in due time.

  • Day 470 || how to create more time
    1. TRACK YOUR TIME: figure out where it goes.
    2. Get clear on what Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-goals are important + what can wait + what can be delegated or eradicated completely. Learn to prioritize and put things in order from highest urgency + priority to lowest + learn to eat the frog - a method that was put on the map by Brian Tracy in his book but basically it says to take on the worst, biggest task first thing in the morning. Which I’ve always tried to do, because otherwise I just wont - and its a game changer. Create a priorities list and get it all on paper so you can start ticking them off and visualizing the progress.
    3. Be picky about what you say yes to. Remove anything non-essential. Meetings that can be emails,
    4. Try focus strategies = no phone, no distractions, special work space + ritual. Binaural beats or focus music is also a great vibe for work spaces.
    5. Attempt mono-tasking but don’t be afraid to “batch” like with like.
    6. Schedule, allot + delegate appropriate amounts of times for things. This means start AND end times. Limiting work can limit burn out. If you’re really flowing - fine, but know when to cut and return. Your flow will return too, if you give it time to breathe. INCLUDING REST: Get enough sleep but not too much. Planning ahead or using time tools like the Pareto/pomodoro/time segmenting can help
    7. Set yourself up for success in any way you can. I’m a big fan of the night before optimization moment: if I need to do laundry the next day, I will set everything I need to do it, including dirty laundry, quarters, soap, and dryer balls near the door so it’s ready for when I am ready in the morning.
    8. Half ass it and keep coming back to it if you’re not happy with it til it’s to your liking. Half assing it twice is basically a full ass in some cultures. Plus who can afford a full ass right now? In this economy?
    9. Seriously - Focus, Take it seriously. Learn to like it. Make a nice space + associate work with work .

  • Day 469 || give yourself more time

It sometimes feels like the less time I give myself to do important tasks, the more stressful unexpected things happen to set me back! Does this happen to anyone else?

How to agree to less: Don’t agree to things unless they’re mutually beneficial. Break things up appropriately in your plans and scheduling. Stop double booking. And allot the APPROPRIATE amount of time to do the shit you need to get done. Account for mental health breaks, tech difficulties, traffic, disruptions, meals, fun, rest + recovery.
