We're baaaaack (Carol Anne voice). Did you miss us? We've risen from the dead just in time to celebrate Spooky Season! To kick off our comeback era, we're diving into MaXXXine, starring Mia Goth as the fame-obsessed final girl of Ti West's X film series. For this third and last installment, Costume designer Mari-An CEO put Ms. Goth in delicious double denim, muscle shirts, leather pants, high-heeled boots, and gold jewelry — all of which have amazing references and seriously clever Easter eggs. Listen as we discuss our favorite KILLER looks from this 1980s Hollywood-set slasher, with Marie sharing unpublished tidbits from her interview with Mari-An.
Before we get into the film, we catch up on things we didn't get to discuss these past few months, like: LongLegs (Blaire says Nic Cage is "dressed like Nanny on The Muppet Babies," and we're still recovering from that...); Practical Magic 2 (still awaiting confirmation of the AUNTS in the sequel); our official new style icon, Karis, the fabulous TikTok tween show pig champion; our spooky season finds, and more. Tune in, and leave a message at our new numba!!! (323) 696-6133

Happy 25th anniversary to the 1999 classic, 10 Things I Hate About You! We’ve talked about Kim Tillman’s work on the pod before (Doppelgänger, Wild Things). This time, she created thoughtful and fashionable costumes for the Seattle teens in this reimagined Taming of the Shrew. Kim dressed Julia Stiles’s character in low-slung pants, cropped camo, and Frankenflops, opposite her sister’s (Larisa Oleynik) ultra-girly style. Heath Ledger (in his breakthrough role) got the stylish bad-boy treatment in custom-dyed tank tops and PVC pants. We also discuss the iconic prom looks, name the film’s Surprise Style Icon, revisit Andrew Keegan’s alleged cult (and then fantasize about becoming cult leaders ourselves).

Welcome to our Francine Jamison-Tanchuck fan podcast! Listen to us delve into Francine’s beautiful, brilliant costume design for The Color Purple (2023) and her career coming full circle after working on the original 1985 film with costume designer Aggie Guerard Rodgers. (We discussed Francine’s work before for our Boomerang and Low Down Dirty Shame episodes.) Shug Avery (Taraji P. Henson) and wide-leg trousers are the gems from this episode, but we loved every bit of this movie, even if we cried! Watch this powerful story about sisterhood, then tune in to our episode! Other topics include Blaire and Marie's matching Delia's pinstripe overalls, an update from our Barbie episode (Peaches 'n Cream), "Channel suspenders," and more.

Did you know that costume designers, the majority of whom are women, are paid nearly 30 percent less than other, male-dominated creative department heads? Despite costume design being a pivotal part of storytelling in cinema, it has been historically dismissed as “women’s work,” leading to the artisans being underpaid and under-appreciated in their industry.
In this very special episode, we're covering the Pay Equity Now movement! Blaire chats with costume designers and friends of the pod, Ariyela Wald-Cohain and Whitney Anne Adams, who are co-chairs of the Costume Design Guild’s Pay Equity Steering Committee, about this important initiative. Tune in now and learn how to support costume designers' fight for pay parity, because without them, there would be no us! #CDGPayEquity #NakedWithoutUs

https://deadline.com/2024/01/costume-designers-launch-equal-pay-campaign-parity-1235804822/Pour yourself a nice cool glass of bathwater because we’re talking about Saltburn today! Blaire and Marie break down the mid-2000s looks of the Catton clan whipped up by costume designer Sophie Canale (Bridgerton S2). We reminisce about our chaotic Facebook and Flickr albums and going to Club Bang. We also debate about skirts with leggings(“Is ‘Toddler Style’ fashion gonna make a comeback?”) discuss Jacob Elordi and his rich rugby jock, Ashton Kutcher-esque look, and praise our new shared style icon, Carrey Mulligan’s Poor Dear Pamela, with her designer goth girl ‘fits.

The Brothers Sun hive, rise up! The show’s costume designer, Vera Chow, joins the pod to tell us how she dressed Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien, Sam Song, and the rest of the cast for the new Netflix series. If you haven’t binge-watched this hilarious, action-packed show yet, it tells the story of a Taiwanese triad gangster who goes to LA to protect his estranged mother and improv-wannabe brother. Vera talks about how growing up in Asia helped prepare her for the gig and how she highlighted API clothing brands and sourced from thrift stores, Chinatown, designers, and Amazon for the characters' looks. She also created custom pieces (including a $6,000 corset belt for a character who dies right away), used tons of symbolism, put in costume design Easter eggs, and so much more for this epic series. Tom is also nominated for a CDGA award for the episode with our queen Aubrey Plaza as host and tells us the magic behind the insane Avatar skit. We also discuss his latest film, the new Mean Girls musical, and how he updated the look of our favorite Plastics. My colors are blush and bashful! We’re ending Dollyuary, our month-long Dolly Parton celebration, with a classic…Steel Magnolias! After having emotional breakdowns from watching this tear-jerker movie, we get into the fashions of these strong southern belles! Costume designer Julie Weiss (Frida, American Beauty) put this deliciously talented crew of women (Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, and Olympia Dukakis) in big shoulder pads, cat-eye glasses, fur coats and overalls, and church hats galore! We discuss the alleged Mob Wife trend and thee armadillo cake; Blaire celebrates Ouiser’s (Shirley’s) eccentric Southern Lady glam, and Marie attempts to make Truvee’s (Dolly’s) cuppa cuppa cuppa cake (1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 fruit cocktail with the syrup).
