Time to break out your head-to-toe Fremi! (With an I, not an E.) We're taking it back to 1994 with A Low Down Dirty Shame, the Keenan Ivory Wayans cop comedy that features a highly underrated style icon…Jada Pinkett Smith as Ms. Peaches Jordan! In this week's episode (which is the final installment of our "Season of the Witch" series, we talk about our listeners' movie-inspired Halloween costumes. Then, we discuss the new reboot of The Craft…and we've got a lot to say (warning: lots of spoilers)! If you listened to our episode of the original 1996 movie, you know that it meant a lot to us, so we don't hold back on our general thoughts about The Craft: Legacy before going into the fashion. We talk about the special details that costume designer Avery Plewes (Ready or Not) put into each girl's look (they were inspired by elements) and, by the end of the episode, play with the idea of doing a full month dedicated to Nic Cage.

We're almost done with this month's Season of the Witch series, but wanted to sneak in a special mini-episode! If you've ever seen the 1995 anthology film, Four Rooms, you know that there's a segment directed by Allison Anders (Mi Vida Loca) about a coven of witches (including Madonna!) that gather in a hotel room on New Year's Eve to resurrect their goddess, Diana. It's short but sweet, and the costumes (by Susan L. Bertram and Mary Claire Hannan) are to die for. Blessed be!
Show notes:
Don't duct tape your boobs like Blaire did in the '90s...use Nue instead.

Are you in the mood for some grotesque glamour? Well, you're in luck, because our latest episode is about the reboot of Roald Dahl's The Witches! While Anne Hathaway taking on Angelica Houston's iconic role as the Grand High Witch might be a tall order for some, you'll agree that the costumes are a true feast for the eyes! Joanna Johnston (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Death Becomes Her) is the designer behind these bewitching looks.

Get ready for a real early-2000s Disney Channel flashback, Fishies! We've got a bite-sized episode on 2005's Twitches, starring Tia and Tamera Mowry. Howeva, we've gotta keep it real…there's not too much to say about the costumes in this flick (hence the mini-ep), but who can resist a good ol' Sister, Sister #TBT? Imagine time-traveling back to a time of sheer tunics over flared jeans and wide, low-hanging belts…that's what you'll find in Twitches! Whether that frightens you or somehow thrills you, please DO enjoy.

We're continuing with October's season of the witch series with Hocus Pocus (1993)! We discuss the Sanderson Sisters steeze, plus comfy fall sweaters and on-trend tie dye. Costumes are by the fabulous Mary Vogt, who did Batman Returns and Crazy Rich Asians. We also talk about what horror movies and spooky shows we're watching this week (Haunting of Bly Manor, Exorcist III), how there are two different kinds of "Halloween people," and reminisce about our annual tradition of going to Halloween Horror Nights. We also butt heads about Nightmare Before Christmas (Marie agrees with Ryan Gosling that it ruins the Disneyland Haunted Mansion during Halloween, while Blaire is a fan of all thing NBC. "This sounds like a betrayal," says Blaire.) Tune in now!

We're getting witchy with it! For October, we're doing all witch movies! First up is Teen Witch, the 1989 high school comedy which stars Robyn Lively as a nerdy teen who gets magickal powers on her sixteenth birthday. Blaire and Marie discuss the new reboots of The Craft and The Witches, tuxedo shirts, bolo ties, acid wash, "shenanigans," and praise Richie, the hilarious little brother played by Joshua John Miller (who should have gotten an Oscar for this role TBQH). Costumes by Judie C. Champion (and apparently Robyn Lively, who used a lot of her own clothing for the film)!

When it comes to fashionable movies from the early 2000s, is Uptown Girls on your short list? If not, it's time to put some RESPEK on Molly Gunn's name. And we've got a special guest to help us come correct. Writer, actor, and founder of Rookie Magazine, Tavi Gevinson, is helping us dive into this underrated film in which Brittany Murphy plays a carefree, rock n' roll heiress who loses her inheritance and becomes a nanny to a spoiled and neglected Dakota Fanning! Tune in now to hear us chat about Egyptian cotton, tiny sunglasses, teacup pigs, and parallels between Dakota's character and the Devil Wears Prada. Costumes by Sarah Edwards!
