“This book is also a groundbreaking road map to finally being your true, authentic self.” ―Susan Cain, New York Times, USA Today and nationally bestselling author of Quiet

Up to 40% of people consider themselves shy. You might say you’re introverted or awkward, or that you're fine around friends but just can't speak up in a meeting or at a party. Maybe you're usually confident but have recently moved or started a new job, only to feel isolated and unsure.

If you get nervous in social situations―meeting your partner's friends, public speaking, standing awkwardly in the elevator with your boss―you've probably been told, “Just be yourself!” But that's easier said than done―especially if you're prone to social anxiety.

Weaving together cutting-edge science, concrete tips, and the compelling stories of real people who have risen above their social anxiety, Dr. Ellen Hendriksen proposes a groundbreaking idea: you already have everything you need to succeed in any unfamiliar social situation. As someone who lives with social anxiety, Dr. Hendriksen has devoted her career to helping her clients overcome the same obstacles she has. With familiarity, humor, and authority, Dr. Hendriksen takes the reader through the roots of social anxiety and why it endures, how we can rewire our brains through our behavior, and―at long last―exactly how to quiet your Inner Critic, the pesky voice that whispers, "Everyone will judge you." Using her techniques to develop confidence, think through the buzz of anxiety, and feel comfortable in any situation, you can finally be your true, authentic self.

  • #97 - Max La Manna | Cooking as the Greatest Self-Development Tool of All Time from a Vegan & 0 Waste Chef
Max La Manna, the face behind Eating with Max, has become a cooking sensation in a short amount of time through the popularity of his Instagram. His fans and followers love his healthy, colorful recipes — which are not only healthy, but they're simple too. Each recipe has natural ingredients and are mainly plant-based. But what really stands these recipes apart is how they're all waste-free. Your health and the earth will thank you for trying his recipes!

Max La Manna is the perfect example of a typical kid that grew up in the late 80’s and 90’s in America thinking eating an Italian American style diet, including animal products like meats and cheeses, was normal and healthy. Despite always being slightly more conscious about the environment than his peers, which he credits to the way he was raised, there was a pivotal moment in Max’s life where his consciousness went to a new level. To an extent this moment redefined who he was and helped him work out his true purpose. Today Max is an all round great guy, a passionate vegan and an advocate for living a no waste life.

What if the advice we’ve all heard about networking was wrong?

What if the best way to grow your network ISN’T by introducing yourself to strangers at cocktail parties, handing out business cards, or signing up for the latest online tool, but by developing a better understanding of the existing network that’s already around you?

We know that it’s essential to reach out and build your network. But did you know that it’s actually your weaker or former contacts who will be the most helpful to you? Or that many of our best efforts at meeting new people simply serve up the same old opportunities we already have?

In this startling new look at the art and science of networking, business school professor David Burkus digs deep to find the unexpected secrets that reveal the best ways to grow your universe.

Based upon entertaining case studies and scientific research, this practical and revelatory guide shares what the best networkers really do…and it looks a lot less like collecting business cards and making random introductions and a lot more like fostering authentic connections and seeking out diverse new voices.

Forget the outdated advice you’ve already heard. Learn how to make use of the hidden networks you already have.

Eric Barker is the creator of the blog and Wall Street Journal bestselling book Barking Up the Wrong Tree, which presents science-based answers and expert insight on how to be awesome at life.

Much of the advice we’ve been told about achievement is logical, earnest…and downright wrong. In Barking Up the Wrong Tree, Eric Barker reveals the extraordinary science behind what actually determines success and most importantly, how anyone can achieve it. You’ll learn:

    - Why valedictorians rarely become millionaires, and how your biggest weakness might actually be your greatest strength.
    - Whether nice guys finish last and why the best lessons about cooperation come from gang members, pirates, and serial killers.
    - Why trying to increase confidence fails and how Buddhist philosophy holds a superior solution
    - The secret ingredient to “grit” that Navy SEALs and disaster survivors leverage to keep going
    - How to find work-life balance using the strategy of Genghis Khan, the errors of Albert Einstein, and a little lesson from Spider-Man

By looking at what separates the extremely successful from the rest of us, we learn what we can do to be more like them—and find out in some cases why it’s good that we aren’t. Barking Up the Wrong Tree draws on startling statistics and surprising anecdotes to help you understand what works and what doesn’t so you can stop guessing at success and start living the life you want.

His work has been mentioned in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic Monthly, TIME magazine, The Week, and Business Insider. He is a former Hollywood screenwriter, having worked on projects for Walt Disney Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, and Revolution Studios. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and holds an MBA from Boston College and a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA.
