Is writing a book the best marketing strategy ever?
Maybe, maybe not.
In this episode I talk with the amazing Susan Dean from Dean publishing about all things marketing through the lens of having a published book.
Susan started her own publishing company because she wanted to share people’s stories; she truly believe it changes the lives of so many people around the world.
She started her publishing company in her garage. Fast forward through blood,
sweat and tears, and she now owns and operates a publishing house at Dean Manor
on a five-acre property in Macedon Ranges. With a team of 12, two of whom
are her adult daughters. We publish hundreds of stories of inspiration, including
business success, personal triumph and charity development.
A huge part of Susan's ‘Why’ is giving back my time and resources and she is a part
of many wonderful give back projects, such as Buy1Give1, Rotary Club, BNI
Business Network Industry and Hands Across the Water.
She is a life and business coach, workshop and training facilitator, publisher and
entrepreneur. With her help, coaches, authors, mentors and many other business
professionals have been able to share their knowledge and exponentially raise
their profile, brand and business.

I've always said, "I will never run a full marathon, I'm only half crazy."
And this seemed pretty true up until July this year, when after a horrible Half Marathon in May for some reason I signed up to the Sydney Marathon.
What led from there was a really interesting journey through the training and of course, showing up on race day shit scared and just really to have a crack.
I finished, and I feel like I learned some things about life that are applicable whether you run your own business, work for someone else or are just wondering whether it's time you had a crack at that thing that scares you.
I laughed, I cried, and I had days where I didn't want to show up.
The key things I want to leave you with:
Motivation will get you signing up, discipline will take you to the finish line
If you're lucky enough in life to have opportunities, take them
Be grateful for what you have
Nievity is a powerful tool
Great things take time

It's R U Ok? day here in Aus and to mark the occasion I wanted to have an episode asking R U OK, but also talking through why conversation matters and how conversation can grow a brand, but also most importantly create a movement that changed the way Australia saw mental health forever.
"R U OK? was born from lived experience. The valuable insights, storytelling, and expertise of those with lived experience continues to be weaved throughout everything they do." - https://www.ruok.org.au/our-story

In this episode, we are diving into why customer experience matters from a real-life experience of mine.
Last week I had the worst possible customer service of my life (ok maybe not of my life but close too.)
I am taking you on the story of this experience and WHY doing customer service well is the game changer.
Why having it as a written process is so important, and why adding value can take you from a business people work with to a business people seek out to work with!

Today's episode is an open chat about 'the state of things' with Every Saturday founder, Mark Boyd
We're chatting about how having conversations can change industries, and can change the health of our employees.
TW: mental health and suicide.
Ahead of R U Ok day next week, we're also reflecting on some important experiences that Mark Boyd has seen in his industry, but in corporate as a whole and how we can move away from the cupcake day and make dynamic change for mental health.
We're talking women's rights in the workplace, and whether we need to burn it all down and start again.
Longer one today - but as the name suggests... A conversation that needs to happen!
Mark’s career started at the age of 15. The first computer he fixed was the family PC. He broke it. His dad was at work. He had to figure out how to fix it before his dad got home. Ever since then, he was hooked. From the moment Mark set foot in his first role, he saw a challenge with workers and managers often having a disconnect between their shared (or sometimes separate) wants and needs when coming to work every day.
With a passion for problem-solving and have risen through the ranks to build high-performing teams worldwide. Mark was always aware of his mental health challenges and never shied away from tackling them head-on. With the belief that humanity is more than the tagline on our LinkedIn profiles, he set out to bring people into a platform where they could tell their career stories and lend a voice to those still developing theirs.
Mark’s story is a relentless (and sometimes misguided) pursuit of technical and business perfection, a high bar he now realises is impossible to meet, and a story of openly and purposefully making mistakes and owning them. EverySaturday is here to show that even the most senior people in the technology industry can be vulnerable and make mistakes.
This site is built on the belief that a senior manager, COO, Director, or CEO of any business can share their mistakes with the world, those coming into the workforce will not shy away from making them, and we’ll leave the world a happier, healthier place.
