  • Social media algorithms and human behaviour with Kathryn Dellar

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, I am joined by Kathryn Dellar and we chat about the incredible things behind Social Media Algorithms.

Human behavior is fascinating - and it is the driving force behind how they craft social media and keep you scrolling long after you should've put your phone down!

    We talk ethics
    We talk tactics
    We talk about attention spans
    We talk governance
    We talk about data safety
We talk about hacking the algorithm

Missed my last chat with Kathryn? Check it out here

A writer and filmmaker for more than 15 years, Kathryn is highly skilled at knowing how to tell a story with your brand. Her fascination with internet algorithms and human behaviour led her to complete her Master’s in Internet Communications in 2018, and she has since continued her academic research on how internet algorithms impact the human condition.

Kathryn founded Dellar Media after working in the field for 6 years and realising that many small and medium enterprises simply did not have the access to modern digital marketing techniques. Dellar Media is designed to fill that gap. She built the company to offer an outsourcing service that gives clients access to a complete marketing team that is laser-focused on using your digital presence for lead generation.

Kathryn and her team deliver exceptional service to clients using the latest technology and data solutions that give you the competitive edge you're looking for.

  • Keeping up with content creation that's meaningful and not just landfill

    Send us Fan Mail

Today's episode is created because of a question asked by listener Bec Hughes.
(feel free to ask your own question!)

    And it's a great question!

In the age of content for the sake of content because of the pressure put on us by vanity metrics which have nothing to do with business success we have reached a point where Instagram feeds are just noise..... or account after account jumping on random trends and feeling like they have to do what x is doing because x has x amount of followers and... you get the point.

Marketing's job is to facilitate sales, so anything you do that is outside of this purpose in your marketing, you need to review what you're putting time and energy into.

So how do you stop adding to the noise?

Every time you post think of it as your $30K billboard you have purchased... Stop thinking about it as the 'free' channel where you can just throw content there and fill space without true intent.

Being mindful that the content needs to be unique, useful, and shocking, and you.

It comes back to that old word 'strategy'

If you're so sure of who you need to target, where they hang out, and what they need then you will only create content which is hitting all three of these things.

  • Design Psychology with Tara Ladd

    Send us Fan Mail

Today I am joined by fellow brain nerd Tara Ladd, & we are diving into the psychology of design.

With access to programs like Canva everyone suddenly thinks they're a creative genius, but today we're discussing why having a Canva account doesn't make you a designer.

There are so many essential elements that need to be thought through with any kind of design.

For example, the design brief outlining the purpose & intention behind the design, who the design is meant to attract, & key elements which need to be included in the design.

We need an understanding of how things work, & why things work the way that they work.

Great design subconsciously influences the decisions of those viewing it. You can make someone feel something through visually appealing or visually emotive design.

Before you go on your design journey be sure you understand:

    Who the target is
What platform(s) it will be appearing on
    The Objective of the design
    Key messaging
    Format
    Contact details

Remembering you have 3 seconds to capture the attention of your audience.

Shout out to Catfish designs in this episode

Tara Ladd is an ADHD-powered visual brand strategist and the driving force behind Your One and Only, a strategic brand and design studio. With over 16 years of experience in the industry, she's worked with top player brands like Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Telstra, and Bupa.

As a mum of two boys, Tara is deeply committed to challenging societal norms and empowering working women and mothers. Her passion for creating change is reflected across her channels, including her podcast 'Brand and Butter,' where she delivers a refreshingly honest, no-BS take on the power of branding and the impact of design thinking on our behaviour.

    This is a HUGE Milestone

Today I want to thank you ALL for listening and of course, thank my amazing podcast producer who brings my voice to life - LEAH!

I saw a gap in the podcasting world for a business podcast focused on marketing which delivers simple, easy, quick marketing advice to business owners... (and corporates!)

My goals in making Marketing Espresso? So glad you asked:

    • To make marketing feel accessible and practical for everyone and something people DO prioritise in their business
    • To ask that question before you do activity "BUT WHY"
    • To make people feel HAPPY and empowered when it comes to their marketing
    • To reduce the overhwlem
    • To break down the jargon
    • To stop the aimless box ticking!

In three words? Educate, Inspire, and Help

Marketing Espresso is a place where you can come and feel like you're a part of the marketing chamber and that you're welcome regardless of whether you're a business owner, wanna-be business owner, C-suite, manager - whoever you are this is a place for you to learn, absorb and feel inspired.

There is nothing wrong with NOT wanting to grow your business, a six-figure business is not too shabby at all! But if you want to grow you have to do things differently.

Some of the signs that might rear their head that you've met this point of 'I need to readdress my business strategy for growth' could be:

    • Opportunity Cost - you're missing opportunities, for example not pitching for big work

    • Who you are serving

  • My photos were stolen and Meta doesn't give a f***

    Send us Fan Mail

Yep, I have gone rogue... Because it really upsets me that a company with so much access to people's information takes no responsibility on its platform to look after the privacy of its users.

Its users who are the reason the platform exists in the first place!

I really think Meta has lost touch and in this episode, I am telling you how it felt to have my photos stolen and reused by a fake account, and then have Meta ignore all the reports my friends lodged on my behalf.
