Good marketing should include both an internal and external strategy for your business both of which are vital for success. Often business owners have the best intentions to either manage the marketing of their business themselves or get 'the receptionist to take care of it.

Now I am grateful for the second option as that is how I got my start. However in either situation give yourself the best opportunity to succeed by getting outside advice and help.

"It's important to get an outsider's perspective on your business to create a better business."

In this episode, you will learn:

    1. The importance of marketing for businesses.
    2. The benefits of an outsider perspective on businesses.
    3. The ROI of marketing spend.

    Chapter Summaries:
[00:00:06] - Bec explains why you need help with your marketing. On marketing, espresso marketing is not just about external presence. It's about creating an internal culture within your business. It doesn't mean you have to outsource your marketing, but it does mean you can train someone internally to be doing your marketing for you. It's important to get an outsider perspective on your business to create a better business. Marketing spend always comes back with ROI. If you want to hire a consultant, talk to them about the case studies they've had and how they've helped people before.

  • Scoping your brand with Tegan Purdon

    Send us Fan Mail

Tegan Purdon, a brand and marketing strategist, coaches purpose-driven businesses to create a content strategy and communications plan using three key components of consistency she asks the question... Why does marketing exist and how can businesses use it to increase profits?

"It's important to remember that every channel is different and it's okay to not be on every channel you create for your audience and the people you want to buy from you."

A lot of people are talking about the importance of "brand consistency" these days, but what they're usually referring to is just the surface-level stuff like a company's personality, values, and boundaries.

However, true brand consistency is much deeper than that. It's about creating a content strategy and communications plan that takes into account the different ways that people consume information and make decisions.

For example, Instagram is a great platform for showing off your brand personality, but if you're trying to reach a more professional audience, LinkedIn is probably a better bet. It's also important to remember that not every company needs to be present on every social media

In this episode, you will learn the following:

    1. The importance of consistency in branding
    2. The different channels available for marketing, and how to best utilize each one
    3. The role of market research in marketing strategy

    This is Tegan Purdon's story...

Tegan Purdon is a brand and marketing strategist that supports purpose-driven businesses to have a solid grasp of their brand and implement holistic, strategic marketing. Her aim is to reduce marketing fatigue by providing easy to implement marketing strategies that work for you and removes the ‘spaghetti at the wall’ approach when it comes to messaging and offerings.

She offers a variety of services including coaching, intensive workshops and consulting – all aimed at being budget-friendly for small businesses looking to grow.

  • Brand positioning and how it affects your ability to price

That my dear business friends is Brand Positioning in action!

"In a service-based business, it's important to talk to the customer about the result they're going to get and how they'll feel and the experience they'll get and what you offer them that no one else can offer them."

What is your brand's position in the market, and how does it affect your ability to price your products?

When you're talking about your product or service, are you constantly haggling on price? Or are you talking about why you're needed?

In this episode, you will learn the following:

    1. How brand positioning affects your ability to price in the market
    2. Why it's important to talk to customers about the results they'll get from your service
    3. How to find the right balance between being the cheapest and offering the best solution

    Chapter Summaries:
[00:01:54] - Today's episode of the podcast is about brand positioning and how it affects your ability to price in the market. It's about McDonald's, KFC, fast food joints of the world, Sake the Keys, the Merrivaled Group, and fine dining restaurants. In a service-based business, it's important to talk to the customer about the result they're going to get and how they'll feel and the experience they'll get and what you offer them that no one else can offer them, especially at a lower price.

[00:07:28] - When you're talking about your product or service, are you constantly haggling on price? Or are you talking about why you're needed and positioning yourself in a more luxurious kind of service product offering? There's also a mid-ground where you can sit where you're not necessarily the cheapest, but you offer a good solution that's better than the cheapest.

    Send us Fan Mail

"PR gives you instant access to established audiences and the ability to collaborate with some amazing people."

Today on the show we have Erin Huckle talking all things building your profile (without the cringe factor)

In this episode, you will learn the following:

    1. How to use PR to grow your career or business
    2. The importance of having a strong personal profile
    3. The power of effective storytelling

    This is Erin Huckle's story...

Erin Huckle, the founder of Chuckle Communications, is in the business of raising the profiles of her clients through proactive PR, amazing award entries and compelling written content. She works with innovative, ethical and creative small businesses and leaders, to find their voices and tell their stories. Her focus is on helping clients connect with their ideal customers, by turning up where they hang out.

With almost 20 years' of experience in PR, Erin has worked across sectors including tourism, IT, major events, not-for-profits, tech and publishing. She still gets a huge buzz out of helping her clients get featured in the media, and she loves celebrating the awesomeness of her clients through the power of PR.  Based in Wollongong, Erin is a mum to three very busy boys, and in her spare time she loves any opportunity for a moment of peace, ideally with her head in a book.

    Chapter Summaries:
[00:00:22] - Erin Huckle is the founder of chuckle Communications. She works with innovative, ethical and creative small business leaders to find their voices and tell their stories. Erin has almost 20 years of experience in PR. She's based in Wollongong and is a mum of three boys.

[00:02:09] - PR is about creating new ways to interact with your audience and building your profile. The most basic thing you need to do is to have a bio about yourself ready to go and it could be your LinkedIn profile or a separate 100 words about yourself. PR gives you instant access to established audiences and it looks to collaborate with some amazing people.  She recommends following and engaging with the people you would like to be featured by. She also recommends listening to the podcast and writing a pitch to help their audience ”i would get the go ahead just from a synopsis rather than writing the full article first even if you write the whole article you can repurpose that anyway” ”i think that's really great advice and yeah definitely something that I mean as you said.

[00:12:08] - This is great because from a marketing point of view, I'm always looking for content. I've got a few people at the moment starting from scratch, and they need content in the beginning. The most important thing is to have a brainstorming session with the potential client or the new client. Then someone like me will go away and look at the topics and potential media targets.

[00:14:26] - There is an opportunity to build a personal profile. If you want to grow your career or grow your business, LinkedIn works for people's profiles. People love stories, and everyone has potential to be a storyteller.
