    Summary

Stories are powerful because they transport us into other people’s minds and gives us reasons to think about something that we never thought of.

It is like connecting their emotion to their purchasing decision once you hit that buyer's soft spot.

Storytelling is one of the cheapest yet effective methods to naturally educate, convert, and sell to your audience for connecting with the emotions (and wallets) of your audience.

Kyle Gray is an entrepreneur, story strategist and author who helps coaches, startups, and influencers combine timeless storytelling with cutting edge marketing to ensure you’ve got the right story to tell while presenting or on a sales call.

In this episode, Kyle shares how he helps impact-driven coaches use storytelling to craft a profitable presentation and funnel that attracts their ideal audience and inspire them to take massive action.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:04 – Kyle's ideal client: "I can do great with anybody who has really brilliant ideas, but just has a challenge expressing them. But my most ideal client is a health coach or health entrepreneur, right now, that is trying to work with usually complex, challenging inflammatory conditions and needs a bit of coaching and a bit of high-end work with them.."
01:58 – Problem Kyle helps solve: "Like many highly intelligent entrepreneurs, coaches and consultants, in communicating what they do and how the result they're going to get is going to be really valuable. So, I started working with her as well to improve or help them start sharing their story. And it's enabled them to reach more people and heal more conditions like my own."
03:08 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Kyle: "They're trying to do a whole bunch of things. They're trying to, you know, maybe they're trying to build their social media following. ."
03:41 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: "They discount their services, they discount what they do, and then everybody ends up being a little bit dissatisfied with it all. They're not really charging what they're worth. They feel, they wake up or they feel like this, and maybe this is a mistake, maybe this is a symptom, but they just say to themselves, "I wish marketing just wasn't a thing so I could just help, I just want to help people. I don't want to manage all this stuff in between me and doing that."
05:17 – Kyle's Valuable Free Action(VFA): Do one clear message. Figure out what you do that resonates with your audience. Put it together into one clear lesson, whether it's a presentation or a stage talk. And then align it with one clear offer. And one of the great things about having a proprietary process like that is once you understand the steps you can take; you can start to connect it with different stories.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:38 – Pia's ideal client: "One to three-person creative service businesses who are super badass at what they do."
01:51 – Problem Pia helps solve: Generic, unprofitable business, overworked, underpaid, always looking for clients because they're so generic, and they just fade into a sea of sameness.
02:45 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Pia: "Well, they are frustrated that they are so good at what they do and their clients are so happy and yet they're working all the time and they're not making enough money. They're always pitching for work, and they're not always winning it. All their projects go out of scope, they never end on time. They never feel like they're getting paid enough. They can't charge what they need to make cents. And they never know where their next client is coming from."
03:47 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: "They are often casting a wide net. So, I need more clients so I'm going to try to work with everyone. I'm going to bend myself to try to pitch to every potential project. I need more clients and more revenue; I'm going to offer lots of services. Here's a menu of services that can do whatever you want, here, pick off my menu of services. Because of either of these things, they don't own anything. So, they are not owning whatever it is that makes them so badass. Instead, they're trying to be whatever they think their potential clients want them to be, which is why they're so generic and so lost in a sea of sameness."
05:17 – Pia's Valuable Free Action(VFA): Look at where you provide the most value and what you love to do most. And look at all your past clients and pick out the ones that have been most successful and see if you can focus wherever that all intersects because that's where you should start looking to focus and niche.

    Summary

Ahmad Munawar is the creator of the 90 Day Pipeline™. He is a marketing coach for consultants and professional service providers.

In this episode, Ahmad shares how he help consultants and professional service providers attract dream clients, increase fees and scale their businesses.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:06 – Ahmad's ideal client: "I typically work with consultants and professional service providers who have really deep subject matter expertise."
01:46 – Problem Ahmad helps solve: There's a point at which the referral pipeline dries up, and everybody who's sold services knows this, you hang up your own shingle. And then initially you get some deals from the referral. People know you; they like you; they trust you. And maybe you sustain yourself for months, maybe even years doing that but there is a point at which the referral pipeline will dry up and you've got to go out and do some actual marketing to drive business. That's the perfect time for clients to engage me and we get them laser-focused on a specific target market. We position them as the one and only solution on that market and then we get them creating marketing that gets people's attention and sparks conversations.
02:45 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Ahmad: Low lead volume.
04:16 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: "So, the first common mistake is ignoring all of this and hoping the problem will go away. And it happens more than we would care to think. What happens is, you'll ignore the problem and then you'll just hope that you'll land another big client, another whale client, right? That will pay your bills for maybe three months, six months, nine months, and then eventually that deal comes to an end and lo and behold, you're back to where you started. The second big mistake would be outsourcing this. So, there's all kinds of people preying on the consultants and the service providers out there and offering done-for-you outsource marketing services, at my experience, rarely work."
05:42 – Ahmad's Valuable Free Action(VFA): Here's the big thing, come up with really great ideas and get them in front of your target market. Sound simple. That's life-changing. That's game-changing for a business. Come up with some really, really great powerful ideas and get them in front of your target market consistently. Publishing is cheap, and it's available to anybody in a variety of formats. So, you want to find where your clients are hanging out, right, where they're consuming information. And get your very best ideas out in front of them consistently, show up, and provide those insights. And if your ideas are good, and the market is there, you're going to win clients.

Foundation Marketing provides content marketing services to organizations all over the world ranging from some of the fastest-growing startups & consumer products to global Fortune 500 brands. In this episode, Ross shares how he helps business owners build a content marketing engine that’s fueled by research and data—and that gets results.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:12 – Ross' ideal client: "Ideal client has to be B2B brands recognizing that could be anything from SaaS to manufacturing companies."
01:27 – Problem Ross helps solve: So, the problem that we solve is the fact that a lot of B2B brands struggle to create content that's engaging, that's worth talking about, that's worth sharing. And we help them develop strategies and also implement those strategies so they can create content that's worth sharing, worth reading, worth linking to, and worth talking about online.
02:41 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Ross: "So, there are typically three different things that are oftentimes happening. One is the fact that they internally feel the pain of constantly writing the same things over and over and over and over and over again, and getting tired of doing so. Their customers, their subscribers, their followers, are being met with the same content because they're not thinking outside of the box. And they are feeling that pain because they can't come up with new ideas. Another symptom that is often happening is a reduction in the amount of engagement that they're seeing on both their social media channels and the content that they're putting out there. They're not seeing as many people sign up for their newsletter, they're not seeing as many people link to their articles, to their content. And that's also a symptom that is often happening when organizations are not thinking outside of the box with their content. The final one would just be a reduction in traffic. So, they're seeing a decline in the number of people finding their content organically through social because they're making the mistake of creating content for robots over-optimizing and not creating content for people."
04:15 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: "So, two of the biggest mistakes include always looking at their competitors for inspiration. And then the second piece that is oftentimes a mistake is only talking about their product and actually what they do."
05:10 – Ross' Valuable Free Action(VFA): You take that insight around why that piece of content is at the top, and you create content about that and that's going to be interesting content to your audience that they're going to be interacting with.

01:23 – Kendra's ideal client: We work with business owners who are actually the principal salespeople within their organizations. Or they have a very small sales team and they're trying to figure out how the heck can they get more customers.
01:55 – Problem she helps solve: usually what their issue really is, is that they've tried all these different activities but they can't seem to get any leads, they can't figure out how to do it consistently. And so, we come in and we help them put together a lead generation strategy, and then implement that strategy to the point where either we'll coach them or we actually will do the lead generation for them.
03:01 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Kendra: It's usually that they're not being consistent in their lead generation approach. And one of the primary approaches still to use is email because you can reach a whole group of people quickly. We absolutely still want to pick up the phone, we still want to do social media and all those other activities. But what they're finding is they're not getting consistent leads, and they're not getting responses to the lead generation activities that they're doing.

04:06 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: they're not doing anything consistently. They're not just sticking with it; they'll try lots of different strategies.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:48 – Jeanna's ideal client: "Business owners with small businesses who just want to make it more fun to attract clients instead of hunting them down."
02:18 – Problem Jeanna helps solve: The whole point is to have marketing that attracts clients and have it feel natural and feel like you're not trying. They're just showing up, you're still doing the stuff, but it doesn't feel like work. It doesn't feel like stuff.
03:03 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Jeanna: "They're feeling like things just feel like work. It's feeling there's a cap, there's some sort of plateau. They're feeling like maybe they're marketing but the marketing isn't working. They usually work with a lot of other mentors. They've done a lot of other things and like, it doesn't matter even if they followed it to a tee, it's just not working and it's, a ton of it is mindset."
04:06 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: "I think that people are making themselves do a lot of things they don't want to do. And they're not even questioning, like, "Well, wait a minute, if I could make this fun or if I could customize this, what would that look like?"
05:49 – Jeanna's Valuable Free Action(VFA): I would question where have I gotten, like, stale on marketing? Like, where am I just going through the motions? Where is it moldy and oldy? Because I'm not looking at it from fresh new eyes. How can I be innovative? What could I say that would like to be exciting for me to say? What would be a little edgy? What's a different fun twist to put in? I mean, like, something as simple as that you don't use emojis in your emails, try an emoji, it's fun to use an emoji. But also getting radical, like, what would be radical? What do you not want to say? What do you want to say that you won't give yourself permission to stay in marketing? Like, be edgy, take it to the edge. Get a little wild, get a little loose?

Mandi Ellefson is the founder of Hands-Off CEO. She leads owners of consulting agencies to dramatically scale profits. And make the business RUN and GROW without them. She helps them immediately free up to 20-50% of their workweek to focus on accelerating profits.

In this episode, Mandi shares how she helps extract CEO's from the business so that their business can keep growing and scaling with less dependence on them so that they can work less and make more.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:29 – Mandi's ideal client: "Our ideal clients are B2B service providers. They have to do consulting agencies, multiple six and seven figure companies with teams."
01:50 – Problem Mandi helps solve: The problem we solve is that they cannot grow without the owner working more and more hours. So, growth is completely dependent on the CEO. And what we do is we help extract them from the business so that their business can keep growing and scaling with less dependence on them so that they can work less and make more.
02:31 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Mandi: "Some of the challenges that they're working more and more hours, and they don't feel like they're actually getting further and further ahead in their company. They've gotten to a point where, you know, maybe they can sell pretty well, but they really can't fulfill in all of that. And what that looks like is a lot of times they stop marketing, they hold back the reins on their marketing efforts because they just can't really fulfill anymore."
03:33 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: Well, one of the things that they do wrong is that they look and say, "Well, the things that I'm the most involved in is the strategy and the business. So, what we're going to do is we're going to reduce the amount of strategy and then we're going to make our service more scalable. So, what they do is they try to make the service more scalable, and what that does is it lowers the results for their clients, and then it lowers what they can command as a fee."
04:39 – Mandi's Valuable Free Action(VFA): Looking at what is the best outcome that you can create for clients and under what circumstances?
06:24 – Mandi's Valuable Free Action(VFA):More Growth, with Less Dependence on You: Download the ULITIMATE ROADMAP TO SCALING YOUR CONSULTING AGENCY: https://handsoffceo.com/roadmap/
08:18 – Q: "Why do marketing agencies deliver such crappy results??" A: Well, the thing is, most marketing agencies deliver absolute crap work. And the reason why is because some of them are like, you know, millions in sales, like we generate millions of dollars for their clients, some of them will deliver 20,000, and they don't know why? And so, what happens is they price somewhere in between. So, these people get ripped off, these people that are not charging enough for. So, it's about, they're underpaying, right? So, it's really about understanding who you should not be working for and start, stop, stop selling to them. Just stop selling to them. That's all I got.

Figuring out what makes someone tick and how to get the rest of the world to fall in love with you, your service, what you stand for, making and you the 'chosen one'.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:30 – Marc's ideal client: We mostly work with speakers, authors and coaches, and entrepreneurs. But also, we have some clients that are executives within existing companies or musicians and artists like basically anybody that wants to reach more people, make a bigger difference, and leverage their personal brand, their person, in order to do so.
01:54 – Problem he helps solve: Mostly, its results, like, they're not getting the results. They see other people, like, the Gary Vaynerchuk's of the world running around, you know, with huge audiences, growing their business, you know, by being out there speaking and whatnot. And they're just not quite getting those same results.

02:27 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Marc: It's just like throwing spaghetti at the wall, you know, like something will stick, enough to keep you in the game. But it just becomes a very frustrating experience because there are people out there that aren't as good as me that are getting, much further than I am. Like that kind of stuff, like, you know, where they just can't quite grasp the fact that others are doing better than they are, you know, considering their position.

03:36 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: I think the mistakes that most people make is they find one aspect of it that they really like and then they throw all their, you know, all their attention on that.
05:02 – Marc's Valuable Free Action(VFA): Focus on all three of these aspects (identity, visibility, and authority), as well as consistency. Like consistency is real key when it comes to branding.

Angelique Rewers, CEO and founder of The Corporate Agent, has been called “The Undisputed Champion at Helping Small Businesses Land Big Clients” by Inc. Magazine.

In this episode, Angelique shares how she helps small businesses clarify their positioning, scale their business, increase their revenue and influence resulting in winning corporate clients.

    Check out these episode highlights:

02:05 – Angelique's ideal client: "Our ideal client is anyone who has a product or service, and they want to sell it to a B2B organization, whether it's a global brand, in University, a mid-market company, a nonprofit or any traditional organization."
02:24 – Problem Angelique helps solve: The problem we solve is how do you sell to those organizations without encountering those problems that everybody constantly complains about, like decision-makers who disappear on you, or it's taking a really long time to get to the sale.
03:31 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Angelique: "The biggest thing we see now is folks trying to take the strategies that they've learned in selling to small business owners, namely content marketing, or the terrible advice that content is king. And trying to use that to get to busy decision-makers who don't even have time to read their emails and attend the meetings that they're supposed to be at. And they're going to go to your website and read your blog? So that's really the biggest thing and so people are really wasting an awful lot of time doing things that will never work."
04:22 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: If they do get out from behind their computer to go meet decision-makers, they end up putting themselves in rooms with either a bunch of other consultants, so there aren't actual decision-makers there. Or they go to rooms that have mid-level managers without real decision-making power.
05:32 – Angelique's Valuable Free Action(VFA): One, is to start hosting your own events. One of our favorites is executive roundtables, where you're able to use the leverage of the value of peer to peer coming together around a table. So, it's not just about you. And instead of you being in the wrong room, you can actually create the right room. Big thinkers need small rooms, so you create a small room. The second thing I'll tell you is for the love of goodness, please stop sending over proposals to decision-makers, and then they get lost in their inbox, they look at your pricing and that's really all she wrote.

08:18 – Q: "Why do big companies want to work with small business owners?" A: First is because we are responsive. We can move very, very quickly to their needs. And that brings me to the second reason, which is they're dealing with disruption. They are completely overwhelmed by the amount of disruption that's happening in the world today.

    Check out these episode highlights:

01:29 – Diane's ideal client: My ideal clients are leaders, primarily in corporations. I have worked with entrepreneurs, but most of my work is in corporations with leaders.
01:43 – Problem Diane helps solve: They need to be able to communicate with impact and influence and to do it with confidence and clarity. And when I say leader, you don't necessarily have to be in the C-suite. You might be someone who's also a coach or a consultant, but you're leading your company and you need these speaking skills.

02:10 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Diane: One of the things that's very typical, even in leaders, is not getting to the point. I see people really get stuck in the weeds really bad for selling and for leading and for influencing. The other big mistake, well, they're two, lack of focus, meaning they're not really clear about their outcome. And the third one is they are speaker centered instead of listener centered, it's all about me, myself and I. Not a good technique for selling or influence.
03:22 – Common mistakes people make when trying to solve that problem: They are all over the place. They're not clear about who their audience is sometimes, they're not clear about their message. And you can tell there's no flow or structure to the message. And what I always say to people is delivery sits on structure. So, if you are well organized, that's going to impact your delivery in a very positive way. So, the two go together. They're a marriage, organization and delivery go together.
05:12 – Diane's Valuable Free Action(VFA): Before you do anything else complete this sentence, “At the end of my presentation, the audience will blank.” The answer to that is your outcome. You have to be clear about your why.

07:37 – Q: "Can anybody be effective as a speaker, as a public speaker?" A: Gifted speakers are born but effective speakers are made. It's a skill that anybody can learn. It's simply taking an idea in your head and transferring it to someone else's head in a way that they can hear it.

    Tweetable Takeaways from this Episode:

“Gifted speakers are born but effective speakers are made. It's a skill that anybody can learn. It's simply taking an idea in your head and transferring it to someone else's head in a way that they can hear it.
