In this episode, we talk about an important truth: the words we choose to receive and believe directly shape the course of our lives. Proverbs shows that wisdom and understanding come from accepting words of insight, and James 1 shows that the implanted word only changes us when we receive it and act on it. We share how believing certain words led us to get out of debt, read from our book, Marriage After God, about dreaming together, and tell stories of a jiu-jitsu defeat, a missionary who called Aaron lazy, and a teacher whose words stayed with Jennifer. The enemy knows that lies believed lead to deception and destruction, so we contrast the world's messages with God's, and correct a popular misquote about what God will give you. What 1 John 4, John 6:63 and James 3 reveal about the spiritual weight of what we say and hear

In this episode, we explore an incredible but overlooked truth: words are spiritual things. Just as God spoke the world into existence, what we say carries spiritual power and implications. We look at 1 John 4 on testing the spirits and see that it calls us to assess the words and messages people speak to know whether they come from God, the way you recognize a counterfeit bill by knowing the real one. Jesus calls His own words 'spirit and life,' and James warns how the tongue can defile or give life. Aaron shares how lies like 'I'll never be free' and 'I'll never be strong enough' kept him in bondage until someone spoke truth, and Jennifer shares a study of the Hebrew word 'amar.' Understanding this means taking responsibility for what we speak and what we listen to.

In part five of our eight-part series on how to pray for your marriage, we slow down on one line of the Lord's Prayer: "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10). We talk about why prayer is meant to change our hearts rather than bend God to our plans, and what it looks like to align our desires with His. We distinguish God's perfect will from His permissive will, then walk through passages where Scripture tells us plainly what God's will is, from our sanctification to giving thanks in all circumstances and being transformed by the renewing of our minds. We also share the "without wax" picture of sincerity and invite you to examine your motives in prayer, choosing to seek God's kingdom in your marriage instead of building your own.
