Lester Eubanks was convicted of the murder of Mary Ellen Deener in May, 1966. He was sentenced to death. His death sentence was commuted when the death sentence was abolished in 1972. In December of 1973 Eubanks was allowed to leave the prison and shop for Christmas by himself. He was wearing street clothes and had money in his pocket.
