In this episode we’re joined by Troy Cogburn, Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing at Manhattanville University in Purchase, New York. Manhattanville recently transformed from a “college” to a “university” and is laying the groundwork for new pathways to graduate programs for undergraduate students. Manhattanville caters to a broad spectrum of academic and professional interests across more than 70 graduate and certificate programs, ranging from business management to biomedical sciences – and we’re here to talk about Manhattanville’s place in the future of private university graduate education.

Guest Bio: Since joining the Manhattanville College community as the Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing in August 2021, Troy Cogburn has overseen a 47% increase in new student enrollment and has increased the academic student profile from a grade point average of 3.1 to 3.3. He is an accomplished enrollment professional who has worked with undergraduate, graduate, nursing, transfer, military and veteran students, and adult learners. In recognition of his enrollment success, Troy was recognized by the Business Council of Westchester as a 40 under 40 Rising Star in September 2023.
A staunch advocate for underserved, underrepresented, and undervalued students, Troy has spent over a decade working with professional development organizations that believe in expanding the access and opportunity for students such as the New York Commission for Independent Colleges and Universities, the National Association for College Admissions Counseling, and the New York State Transfer and Articulation Association for whom he served as President during the 2019-20 year.
Troy welcomes the opportunity to think creatively and critically with a team of professionals to attract students from all socio-economic, geographic, ethnic, and gender backgrounds to Manhattanville University with a desire to excel, while continuing to advocate for the non-traditional student populations who represent some of the most vulnerable students in higher education.

Before joining Sacramento State, Sidorkin held several prestigious positions, including the dean of the Graduate School of Education and director of the Center for the Study of Innovation in Education at HSE University in Moscow. He has also served as dean at Rhode Island College's Feinstein School of Education and Human Development and director of the School of Teacher Education at the University of Northern Colorado, alongside professorial appointments at Bowling Green State University and Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University in Russia.
Sidorkin's academic achievements are notable, with two doctorates in education from Moscow’s Research Institute for Theory and History of Education and the University of Washington, and a master's degree in peace studies from the University of Notre Dame. His teaching and research interests span dialogical education, the economics of education, and innovation diffusion in education. Originally from Novosibirsk in western Siberia, Sidorkin's personal journey from a history teacher to an influential figure in education demonstrates his deep commitment to the field.

Building a successful communications plan takes a lot of “behind-the-scenes” work and an understanding how to harness the power of digital media. Before McDaniel, she worked as an associate director of adult and graduate admissions at Neumann University for eight years, where she created consistent graduate student communications to improve retention for on and off-campus and online students. Kittie previously served on the Board of NAGAP, the Association for Graduate Enrollment Management, and currently volunteers for their Marketing & Communications Committee and on the editorial board for their newsmagazine, Perspectives.

Guest Bio: Dr. Scott Cline is the Senior Vice President of Enrollment Management and Auxiliary Services at California College of the Arts. He has also worked at Stanford University and Chapman University. Dr. Cline holds a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from San Francisco State University, a Master of Arts in Education Leadership and Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science from Chapman University.
He has a rich history of serving in leadership positions in various organizations. He was a past president of the California Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (CASFAA) and the Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WASFAA). Dr. Cline has also served on the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) board. He was the primary negotiator for financial aid administrators with the U.S. Department of Education on the Title IV Loans Negotiated Rulemaking Committee that created the REPAYE program and served on the College Cost Transparency Initiative task force as a subject matter expert. In his free time, Dr. Cline conducts research and speaks on enrollment management, higher education, and data. He lives in San Francisco, CA, with his wife Erica, his daughter, and their golden retriever, all of whom are much more talented than him.

Dr. Jeremiah Nelson has had a notable journey in the realm of academia, transitioning from a leadership role in graduate enrollment management to becoming a full-time faculty member at Catawba College. Francesca Reed has worked in higher education for over 25 years. She holds a B.S. from the University of Maryland and an M.A. in Forensic Psychology from Marymount University. Her career has included positions across pre-college programs, Adult & Graduate Enrollment and, in more recent years, in Undergraduate Recruitment as the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management at Marymount University. In her current role as Vice President of Enrollment Management and Marketing at Neumann University, she oversees the Undergraduate, Graduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Admissions Operations, Neumann Media, Marketing and Publications offices.
Fran focuses on improving the graduate student experience from the inquiry stage through the onboarding process by creating an orientation program designed specifically for graduate student needs. Her early development in this program won her and her team NAGAP’s Award for Promotional Excellence for the Best Admitted Student Event in 2008. Her work in GEM has led her to present at the national level including numerous presentations at NAGAP’s Annual Conferences.
In addition to being involved in a number of professional organizations, Fran has been an active member of NAGAP since 2002. She has served on the Executive Board of NAGAP from 2010-2015 and currently serves as the Education Chair and sits on the NAGAP Experts Bureau. During her tenure on the Board, she was the 2011 Annual Conference Chair, Special Projects Chair for NAGAP’s 25th Anniversary, and the Marketing and Social Media Chair. Fran is a recent recipient of the 2019 NAGAP Distinguished Service Award.
Keith Ramsdell has over 25 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education and enrollment management, with nearly 15 years focused exclusively on graduate enrollment.
He currently serves as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing at Ashland University in Ohio where he provides strategic leadership and vision for undergraduate, graduate, international and online admissions, enrollment operations, financial aid, military and veterans services, marketing and communications.
Keith has been a member of NAGAP since 2006. Over the years he has chaired the Professional Development, Bylaws, and Awards Committees. He has served as Vice President and President of the Association, and is currently chair of the External Relations and Partnerships Committee and a member of the NAGAP Experts Bureau. He was the recipient of the association’s 2022 Distinguished Service Award.
He has presented at national conferences and consulted on topics including data-informed decision making, CRM selection and implementation, faculty engagement, executive leadership preparation, and GEM best practices.

Dr. Stanley J. Kania III is a higher education professional with over twelve years of higher education and graduate enrollment management experience. He currently serves as Assistant Dean of Admissions & Enrollment and Assistant Professor in the Department of Family, Community, & Preventative Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. Previously, he served as Director of Enrollment Management at Temple University's College of Education & Human Development and Associate Director of Admissions at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. He also is an Adjunct Instructor in the PhD Program and Higher Education Administration programs at Marywood University. Dr. Kania holds a PhD Administration & Leadership, MBA Management, and BA Political Science- all from Marywood University. He is a peer-review published researcher who has given both scholarly and practitioner-oriented presentations at national and regional conferences. He is also the co-editor of the forthcoming NAGAP sponsored book, A Comprehensive Guide to Graduate Enrollment Management: Advancing Research and Practice, to be published in April 2024. His research interests include the use of artificial intelligence in higher education, professional identity formation in health professions education, and institutional models of graduate enrollment management.

An accomplished university president shares “what’s next” for graduate education at public universities – Dr. Joseph Bertolino, affectionately known as “President Joe” to his students at Stockton University, previously served as president of Southern Connecticut State University and Lyndon State College. Dr. Bertolino shares his thoughts on the balance between traditional graduate education and the evolving role of new technologies, serving non-traditional students in healthcare and education, and how technology enhances the graduate student experience.

Guest Bio: Joe Bertolino, Ed.D., was named the sixth President of Stockton University on March 3, 2023.
President Joe, as he is affectionately known, has been a social justice educator for almost 30 years and is passionate about student success and access to higher education. Since 2016, Dr. Bertolino has led Southern Connecticut State University, a public institution of 9,000 students in New Haven, Connecticut. There, he has pursued several key priorities, including: raising the university’s profile; establishing Southern as Connecticut’s public university for social justice; expanding community outreach and partnerships, building strategic enrollment and streamlining students’ paths to earning a degree.
Prior to joining Southern in 2016, Dr. Bertolino was President of Lyndon State College in Vermont from 2012-2016. From 2004-2012, he held multiple roles at Queens College/City University of New York, including Vice President for Enrollment Management, Vice President for Student Affairs, Executive Assistant to the President and Chair of the Department of Student Personnel.
He also held the roles of Dean for Community Development, Academic Advisor and Associate Dean for Residential Life at Barnard College in New York from 1996-2004. Dr. Bertolino has taught leadership development classes for undergraduate and graduate students.
Dr. Bertolino has been recognized with numerous outstanding professional awards. He is a member of seven different national honor societies including Omicron Delta Kappa and Golden Key. The American College Personnel Association presented him with the prestigious Annuit Coeptis Award twice as an outstanding new professional and as an outstanding senior professional.
Dr. Bertolino holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration & Leadership Development from Columbia University; a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University, Camden; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology/Sociology from the University of Scranton.
