Relevancy vs. Righteousness
The lie is that you are too broken.
The lie is that you are too far apart.
The lie is that there is no more common ground to be found.
The lie is that it’s all bad.
The lie is that they are too crazy to keep believing in them.
The truth is that you can be so right that you take the wrong approach.
I’m talking about the person you are at odds with.
I’m talking about what works good versus what feels good.
I’m talking about the greatest example of love that was ever shown to us.
If we could watch the son of God step in our shoes and handle our conflicts for us…
We would be perplexed.
Disoriented.
Dumbfounded… but only for a moment.
We would then become dissolved.
We would become completely aware of what radical love can do in the face of hate and rejection.
The action that is opposite of our intuition is often the key that unlocks the much-needed next step.
You are probably right.
They are probably wrong.
But the more you chase the facts, the farther you will get away from the actual truth;
To take someone where you want to go, you must first meet them where they are.
They’re hurting and broken just like you.
They’re needing affirmation and security, just like you.
They want to feel loved and accepted in their own way, just like you.
And whoever offers that first does something huge for both of you.
Relevancy is more important than righteousness, my friend.
It’s weird. It’s maddening. But it's true.
So which will you choose?
Cheers,
BW

It’s your final day.
You are closing the books.
The news has long spread. Your colleagues and clients have shared their goodbyes.
You have written your letters of appreciation.
You’ve packed your final moving box.
And you’re waiting for the clock to strike five, on this most surreal Friday afternoon.
At that moment, you will hand over the keys to the new owner of this company you have built and leave the rest to them.
I wonder:
What are the first things the new owner will change starting Monday morning?
With fresh eyes, enthusiasm, and a growth mindset, what will this new steward of the company be focused on?
What will they treasure the most about this sophisticated machine they’ve purchased from you?
What would they quickly let go of?
How will they improve your customer experience?
How will they improve your employee experience?
Without your “old” way of doing things, how will they survive… and how will they thrive 1, 5, and 10 years from now?
And Finally,
What if this “new owner,” was you?
You may not know it, but you have an opportunity in the next 30 days.
Buy your business from your old self.
Enter the front door Monday morning and ask,
“If I were to look at this place as if I had just paid millions of dollars for it, what would I do differently?”
“What would I be excited about?”
And
“What must I get to work on?”
Buy your business from your business, my friend.
The shift in perspective is subtle, but it is life-giving and world-changing.
I can’t wait for you to see all of the wonderful things in front of you with these new eyes.
Cheers,
BW

When you’ve already decided you will be healthy, you study and do what healthy people do.
When you’ve already decided you will be a better husband, you study and do what better husbands do.
When you’ve already decided you will grow in any direction, you surround yourself and do what those who’ve grown in that direction do.
You show up at the same time, in the same way, often to step toward that reality.
You never stop to consider your current mood, your obstacles and your circumstances. They don’t matter because you’ve already decided you will grow… and then you do.
When you’ve already decided that you will be miserable, you study and do what miserable people do.
When you’ve already decided you are dependent on the vice, you study and do what other people dependent on the vice do.
When you’ve already decided you will shrink in a direction, you surround yourself and do what those who’ve shrunk in that direction do.
You show up at the same time, in the same way, often, to embrace that reality.
You never stop to consider your current opportunities, your blessings, or better possibilities. They don’t matter because you’ve already decided you will shrink. And then you do.
Questions for you:
What have you already decided today?
Are you happy with that choice?
What will you decide next?
Cheers,
BW

Thankful is an emotion. It comes naturally when something good happens, or we have a sudden realization of our fortune compared to where we could be.
Thankfulness is achieved when we experience the highs and avoid the lows.
Gratitude, on the other hand, is a practice and an attitude. It often does not come naturally, even to the richest, healthiest, people with beautiful families and loyal friends.
Gratitude is only achieved when you believe there is good in exactly where you are.
Thankfulness fades after the euphoric event.
Gratitude flows to every area of your life every morning that you choose it.
Seek thankfulness for all of the things you acknowledge you’ve been given this week. It’s a wonderful feeling.
But also, seek gratitude even on the weeks you feel like you’ve been taken from. Because that is a wonderful life.
One is a celebration.
The other is a choice.
And the choice is yours my friend.
Happy Thanksgiving to You and Yours

Growing a business to a certain point is actually pretty easy.
But expanding a business decade after decade requires something entirely different, and most leaders will plateau long before their company reaches its fullest potential.
Today's guest is an absolute giant in his industry and has built a company that most could only dream of.
Dr. Steve Rice is a personal hero of mine, and he graciously agreed to unpack some of the most important lessons he and his team have learned after 35 years of continual, profitable growth.
His advice isn't always conventional, but that's precisely why you need to hear it.
Tune in to soak up some rare and wonderful wisdom from a humble CEO you definitely want to be like.

You’ve been on fire since 7 am.
Taking calls. Solving problems. Making things happen.
Crossing off lists, gulping coffee, and getting the job done.
You are very good at what you do.
But it’s a quarter past six now, and you know it’s time that you head home.
You squeeze in one more phone call on your drive there.
You pull into the driveway, finally hang up the phone, shut the car door, walk inside…
...And blow past the most important and sacred moment of the past 24 hours.
Because:
Since 7 am they have also been on fire… for you.
Wondering about you and what you must be doing.
Thinking about all the things they can’t wait to tell you.
Longing for your reaction to the world they conquered without you.
And it’s not that you don’t want to give them your best…
You probably just forgot to save some.
Let me ask you:
How do you want to show up for your family?
Tired of the day, desperate to rest?
Or thankful for the evening, where you finally get to be your best?
Drive around the block, my friend.
Separate your two worlds.
Stoke the flames without a phone, or friend in your ear.
Think about the look you would like them to see on your face.
Think about the words you would like them to first hear when you walk into the room.
Think about the stories they will tell you, if you only ask.
Think about how patient they’ve been and genuinely happy they are for you to finally be home.
Meet them with that energy.
Because the only one who deserves it as much as them… is you.
Cheers.
