Mavs Outsiders

The Mavs lost a close game against the Indiana Pacers at home and now fans are starting to worry. The Watcher- excuse me, Jason Kidd, made some attempts at adjustments tonight but it wasn't enough to save the Mavs from losing to the lottery-bound Pacers.

Bibs and Reese mostly vented their frustrations about the lineup and rotation decisions in this one.

The Mavs came back from the All-Star break this week with just two games on the schedule and both were against lottery teams. The Spurs are well on their way to Wemby or Scoot, and the new-look Lakers are going to try to make a furious push for the playoffs. Both teams accomplished their goals against the Dallas Mavericks.

To be honest, your boys were not excited to talk about this Lakers game so they spent almost 20 minutes not talking about it. By now you should know to check the show notes for the time stamps.

Once we did talk about the Lakers game we dove deep so this is part of the podcast you are looking for if you need to hear your frustrations validated. This led directly into a segment that puts us in new territory. We give you an inside look at the Christian Wood situation so you understand exactly what is going on there.

We're back, folks! We took another short break here for the All-Star weekend after that tragic showing on Wednesday and like Luka, we are going to try to enjoy our break but we decided to show up today (sort of).

In this episode, we talked about the All-Star festivities, my Gamecocks who wore Mavs uniforms, the Christian Wood situation, and our expectations for the end of the season. We of course went through our weekly segments, and we invited a friend of the show, Shad Miller, to talk about his recent interview with Kyrie Irving.

The Mavs played and lost their second straight game with Luka and Kyrie together. It was a weird game where the Mavs could not get a stop early, definitely couldn't defend the rim, and let both Rudy Gobert and Anthony Edwards do whatever they wanted.... then the 4th quarter happened.

In that 4th quarter, Kyrie Irving scored the 3rd most points of any Maverick ever has in a single quarter. Behind only Dirk and Luka. It was a loss, but you can see the potential for this team. Let's just hope Nico and Kidd can figure out the other pieces.

Kyrie Irving is a Dallas Maverick. I had to say it again because it still doesn't quite feel real. We just got through our first full week with Kyrie in Dallas and so far there is a lot to be excited about. Luka returned from injury to give us one game with Luka and Kyrie together but that also happened to be the only game we lost this week.

In this episode, since you likely missed us this past week, we spent some time recapping the week's games to start the podcast. We then moved into our hot topic of the week, the buyout market, where Reese and Bibs give their top 5 buyout candidates. We got into a sidebar discussion about one of those players as well so we hope you enjoy it.

Next, since we had to cancel our mailbag from last week, we decided to do the mailbag this week and we answered the questions you sent in.

Finally, we got to our weekly segments. This included a Bibs rant in the Tweets are Talking segment.

They told us we had no depth without Dorian and Spencer and the team came out and proved us wrong. We went deep in our bench with both 2-way players seeing extended minutes and even the 10-day guy seeing court time. In the end, it was the draft picks who led the way and closed the game.

Josh Green and Jaden Hardy scored matching career highs of 29 points and a combined 15/15 from the line. The pair looked like poised veterans closing out the Utah Jazz. Bibs and Reese talk about it.

Aye man, we really didn't have any plans for this episode to be honest so s/o to Nico Harrison for getting this done. The Dallas Mavericks did it! They made a big move and they wasted no time doing it.

Trade Details:

Mavs receive Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris

Nets receive Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, 2029 Unprotected 1st Round pick, 2027 2nd Round pick, 2029 2nd Round pick

With this trade the Dallas Mavericks become the only team in the NBA with two All-Star starters and with Kyrie Irving in Dallas he becomes the best #2 on the roster in the 25 years Mark Cuban has owned the team. In our last episode, we said "some of these dudes gotta go" and now two of them are gone. Bibs and Reese give their thoughts.

Of course, at the end of the episode, we still go over our weekly segments.

This week the Mavs went 1-2 with losses to the Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz while defeating the Phoenix Suns. The Mavs were without both Luka and Christian Wood vs the Suns and Jazz but received huge performances from Spencer Dinwiddie to give the team a chance in both games.

With these losses, the Mavs fall to 26-25 which is good for 8th in the West and will potentially be without Luka for one more game before he returns. Things in the West are very tight and depending on how things play out the Mavs could be anywhere from 4th in the West to 12th in the West by the end of next week. Let's hope for the best.
