Common Question: Why Should I Talk To Anyone

I share what happened to me during my second abuse after taking a shower this morning. The rituals I have to go through even though the incident is well over thirty years old is example enough to show the stories we carry shape who we are. This was a common ritual at my grandfather's house and something I was forced to go to after the transaction was complete. It was either this or being homeless again and to my mother, being homeless was not worth my innocence.

This is a dark tale, so fair warning. I understand if you might not want to listen to it, but it must at least be shared.

We've been there, right? Our society tries to make sure we are perfect. We need to have everything together or else we're torn apart and destroyed. Sometimes the pursuit of Failure does us far better than we expect, and taking blame is not an option!

I spent this weekend doing nothing that would help long term. I didn't sit down to plan out five year goals or work toward cracking $100,000 in sales for the day. Instead, I concentrated on surviving and enjoying the day, each day.

Most of it didn't work, but the best moments worked.

This episode is about a war raging that you've never heard about. Instead of shedding blood, it is sacrificing whiskey. The Whiskey Wars are silly as they are profound. You and I, we are that island perfectly nestled between two nations. We might not have anything valuable except for someone's pride and, of course, a war at stake. 

Consider the next time your usual supporters give you gifts and tell you that you're great. You never know what silent war is raging over your existence, but not based on your value.

It is easy to live your life under a catchy phrase and some witty sayings, but it is different when you get popped in the nose by life and have to fight to survive every day. While I hate acknowledging the hollow success crowd, I have to admit this is what drives me crazy and I am sure it doesn't help you either.

Consider what they are selling you the next time you listen to someone who has "life advice." You'll be surprised how often they are merely selling common wisdom at a high price tag.

This is you expressing a burden you stole from someone else. It was the feedback you received from someone that verified all the negative beliefs you had about yourself. 

Question every negative thought and wonder if it is you who really said it or if it is something you stole from someone else.

Common question: Why Should I care?

This is where we start falling apart. We believe from what other people tell us that we must tell everyone about what we're feeling. We have to tell them how it works and why they should save us. This couldn't be further from the truth. You don't tell anyone who isn't ready to accept this issue, much like you wouldn't ask a plumber how to write the next great American Novel.

Measure who you can talk to and why you should talk to them. Do they understand your depression? Are they aware of how it feels to be depressed or even suicidal? Consider this before you start talking to someone about it. Nothing hurts more than pouring out your heart and soul to someone who is disconnected from your world.
