This video honors Dr. Simone Chaves de Miranda Silvestre, Head of the Medical Nutrition Therapy Multidisciplinary Team at Hospital Felício Rocho in Belo Horizante, Brazil. She’s also a Post Graduate Professor for the Brazilian Association of Nutrology (ABRAN) and a member of the ASPEN Physician Engagement Committee. Dr. Silvestre shares how associations like ABRAN and ASPEN connect her with a community of nutrition leaders and increase her thirst to learn. She created the first nutrology fellowship that has provided 30 plus physicians with nutrition training and is proud that they are now spread all over Brazil. She also touched on some of her quality improvement projects; how nutrition can improve patient safety. Dr. Silvestre says it is important to talk to surgeons and other clinicians to emphasize the role that nutritionists have on their patients. Mutual respect between practices and teamwork are the key to good medical practice.
