  • Loving Someone Shouldn't Hurt

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

According to the ncadv.org (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence), we learned the following

    • On average nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S.
    • 1 in 7 women and 1 in 25 men have been injured by an intimate partner.
    • 1 in 4 women and 1 and 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence (i.e. rape), and/or stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

These stats are horrific and people who are victims of this need to know they have the love and support of MSO and groups (mentioned above) to help get them through this. WE DO NOT SUPPORT ANY BEHAVIOR THAT SUPPORTS AND PROMOTES THIS!

We take a deep dive into this subject of domestic violence and how it impacts us all. MSO is joined by its special guests (Terri K. Rhiana S. and Kelz M.) Terri shares her personal story of domestic violence and through this outlet, she hopes that it will help not only to start the healing process for her but for our listeners who may be experiencing the same thing.  Rhiana, Kelz, and I listen and although none of us are medical professionals in this field, we offer up our thoughts and opinions helping her with the healing process. Listen in!

  • Why Is Voting Important For African Americans?

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

Well, it's that time of year again with the 2020 presidential election only a few days away. This is proclaimed to be one of the most important elections of our time.

There is a lot on the ballot with this election that we all should be aware of (i.e. taxes, jobs, economy, Coronavirus, etc.), but what about those items that aren't (e.g. The black agenda - what are the candidates elected going to do to help African Americans with social and economic reform). How will they help the economic state of Black America in 2021 and beyond?  Also, we touch on what makes some black people automatically gravitate to vote Democrat rather than Republican? Is it because that's what we are supposed to because we are black? Does this make black people who vote republican "sellouts" or "coons"?  Finally, what has either party done for us in helping to shorten the economic gap that keeps spreading between black and white Americans?

With that being said...listen in with my Shabazz family including myself, David, Abdul, Kyla, and special guest Alayah, as we talk through this and have a great conversation around the importance of African Americans voting in this upcoming 2020 election.

  • Honoring My Mom - Fatimah Shabazz

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

It's been almost a year since the passing of my mother on October 30th, 2019.  She is loved and missed so much by her family and friends. So for the anniversary of her passing, my brothers and I decided to have a podcast in honor of Fatimah Shabazz (R.I.P). She made an impact on any and everyone who ever came in contact with her. She and my father gave my siblings and me the blueprint so that we can be better people.

So listen in as we talk about how she always supported us, some of the life lessons she gave us, and some of the values she instilled in us that we will carry on for the rest of our lives. We love and miss her dearly and this is one of the best podcasts we've recorded yet.

My guests are my brothers: Abdul, Nasir, and David Shabazz

    Good stuff!

  • How Important Is Intimacy In A Relationship?

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

In the episode, we talk about the 7 elements that define an intimate relationship. They are:

    1. Knowledge - forming deep, intimate relationships, we share a vast amount of personal information that we would not necessarily feel comfortable sharing with others.
    2. Interdependence - tend to be highly interdependent, wherein each partner influences the other ranging from what to eat for dinner to where to live.
    3.  Care - a considerable amount of care each partner places in the other, and this differs from the care that one would typically display to another, non-intimate person
    4. Trust - is the confidence that we place in another human being to act in a way of honor and fairness that is of benefit to us, or at the very least, that our partner will not cause us purposeful harm
    5. Responsiveness - this means recognizing, understanding, and supporting each other, both in times of pain (e.g., losing a parent or a job) and gain (e.g., getting a promotion, announcing a pregnancy).
    6. Mutuality – to go from “me” to “we” – each partner recognizes a close connection and changes his or her point of view. Mutual respect for each other.
    7. Commitment – this is the component where there needs to be a mutual mindset for both parties wanting the relationship to continue indefinitely.

So, with all these 7 elements - Why is intimacy sometimes a problem? Well, let's find out. Join me (Bazz) with Nina, BJ, and LaTonia as we give some insight into the 7 elements of Intimacy.

  • The Mask of Social Media

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

This episode of MSO is dedicated to my late father, John A. Shabazz!

Many of us always seem to be more comfortable expressing ourselves from behind a mask. We’ll take a chance on doing the good, bad or ugly just as long as it can hide our identity. So what about the rampant technological communication in our world today? We all text and email and that can sometimes muddy the tone and create misinterpretation when messaging…but what about the masquerade ball of social media brings out – which is the most dangerous of all.

We all know people only show what they want the public to see on social media. This can be very misleading to your audience, but this that the main goal here?

    • Whether it is a post on Facebook (a plate of food, offering up a "political or public" opinion or looking for "likes").
    • A response or tweet on Twitter (giving your followers hourly or daily updates on your life).
    • Photos posted on Instagram about a birthday, workout, selfie, or even a “perfect life or relationship”.

What are we really trying to do on social media? Present this great life we are living in? Also, do we even think about the real harm we do to others watching us?

My guest (John, Latonia) and I touch on the above question and then some – you'll want to listen in!

  • Is There A Good Man Behind A Good Woman

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

The world's changing. Women are moving up the corporate ladder, creating new businesses, opportunities, and making their mark in society as being one of the most aggressive game-changers today. But...is that a problem for some men? Do we feel that we ought to be the bread-winner of the family? Does that hurt our "ego" when our partner is moving at light-speed with their career and life goals?

    • Are men willing to put furthering their education or career on the back burner so that our partners can acquire their's first?
    • Are men willing to become "stay home" fathers and take care of the children during this process?
    • Lastly, do men have an issue of how much more income our significant other makes?

We tackle all of these questions and much more on this podcast. Join me, BJ, John, and newcomer Adrian as we discuss some of the hang-ups men have with this, and how we need to be "cheerleaders" for each other instead of showing jealousy to our partners.

  • I Can't Breathe Part 3: Under Arrest and Distress

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

In this final episode of the "I Can't Breathe" Podcast Series, I invite my guest to share their personal experiences with unnecessary police harassment.

I close the series with a simple conversation with my guest (BJ) and we share our true stories about some of the racism we have experiences with law enforcement and throughout our life in general.

    Within the conversation we discuss:

    • What happened (the event)
    • What was going through our mind when the situation occurred
    • The outcome
    • Did the event leave a negative impression about law enforcement

We also touch on the unnecessary shooting of Rayshard Brooks, and the actions Mayor Keisha Bottoms is taking to show that she isn't taking this lightly, by tightening up the rules on police force used by Atlanta officers.

We also discuss the concept of unappropriate police brutality towards blacks came from "slave patrols"... and you wonder why we are always in a state of distress. There's a lot behind this - Listen In.

  • I Can't Breathe Part 2: Perspectives of The Black and Blue

We would love to hear your feedback on any episode.

Join MSO as we hit on topics that deal with the racial divide in America. Discussing: How do we feel about excessive force used by some law enforcement?  What punishment should be applied to the four officers who took George Floyd's life? Will their punishment be an example for police departments around the nation moving forward? Are you willing to speak up against racism or remain complacent?

We also discuss recent events pertaining to:

    • Protests around the world against social injustice.
    • COVID-19 pandemic potentially spiking with these protests.
    • Drew Brees's recent comments and responses from professional athletes.
    • What Colin Kapernick meant by kneeling against the social injustice against people of color and the NFL.
    • The removal of confederate statues across the nation.
    •  And much more.

I am joined by some old high school buddies of mine (Freddie, Jamey and Patrick) who went to school with me in Europe. They give me their perspectives on all the topics above. Not only was this a great podcast, but also a nice mini-reunion among friends of 30+ years.

Well, we talk about that in this podcast.
