Are you the kind of person who likes things to be “a certain way”? (You may need to read that again and invite in some honesty with yourself 😜)

I am. I tend to hold a vision and I like it to come to life ‘just so’. I love traditions and rituals, and having them play out in the way I hope. This can be helpful, but it can also be unnecessarily stressful.

This morning I had a moment with my son that helped me see things differently. This episode is about that.

What if you wrapped the presents in a way you’ve never considered before and it became about the joy instead of the end result? What if you applied this metaphor to a different area of your life?

This time of year is beautiful, magical, and filled with love. It’s also potentially busy, stressful and damaging to our beautiful planet. If you’re like me, you do your best to minimise the impact you have on the planet, throughout the year.  Yet some of the traditions we follow at this time can be unusually wasteful - if we’re not careful.

Far from being prescriptive about “what to do and what not to do”, in this episode I’m giving all of us some ideas, an ideal to aspire to, and full permission simply do our best - however that looks in each of our families.

That’s the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). And I think it lives in most (if not all) of us, at some point.

Today I’m inviting you to dip your toe into the energy of the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO), instead. Embracing the fact that there are other things you could be doing, but you choose to be here in this moment and everything it contains.

You know those days when it gets towards evening and you start to feel like you haven’t had the best day? Mine has been a touch that way today. Nothing dramatic, just a couple of things I could have done better, particularly as a mum. 
The magic in today’s mess? Two lessons:

1. Leave the party earlier!
2. Give yourself compassion and grace.

It’s December! I love this time of year... Celebrating the year that was, planning the year to come, and enjoying the festive season in all its crazy beauty.

This time of year - the holiday season - can be messy. We can begin to feel stressed about all kinds of things leading up to Christmas. And right now, as this episode is published, it’s Black Friday/ Cyber Monday weekend when every store seems to be having a sale. So shopping is on the agenda. 

If you’re like me, you try your best to make ethical choices when doing your shopping (gift, grocery or otherwise). It’s challenging at the best of times, expensive and near impossible at the worst. But when sale weekends roll around, how do you feel about shopping? Do you feel that purchasing at this time is unethical because it’s just buying into the consumer culture that’s so unhealthy for our planet? Does it make you feel guilt, shame, or some other blend of discomfort? 

I’m here to offer a (perhaps surprisingly) different perspective. Enjoy.
