It's time for theaters to make money again, which is a good thing because things haven't been great for them for the past 6 months.  They're also going retro: Champlin's getting a new drive-in, because although nobody's observing any sort of social distancing any more, businesses still have to.  It's a good thing out of a bad situation.  Older people can enjoy the nostalgia, and younger people will be trapped in their parents' cars so they won't bother you when they play Candy Crush instead of watching the movie.
