Mickeyphile Podcast Episode 90:  It’s a Small World Marathon Saturday

Travis Detrick joins us this week to talk about his marathon Small World Experience on May 14.  12 hours, 20 trips, 4.1 miles, on the Happiest Cruise that ever sailed.  And there is a little news thrown in too.  On episode 90 of the Mickeyphile Podcast.

1.          Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to launch into EPCOT on May 27

Virtual queue  

Beginning at 7 a.m. on the day of their park reservation, guests with a valid ticket or pass and a Disney Park Pass Reservation for EPCOT will be able to check for an available boarding group via the My Disney Experience app* and request access to the virtual queue. This can be done before you leave your Resort hotel or on your way to the park. 

At 1 p.m., there will be another opportunity to join the virtual queue for anyone who wasn’t able to join a boarding group earlier in the day. Keep in mind, guests must be inside EPCOT to access this second virtual queue opportunity.  

Virtual queue during extended evening hours  

Registered guests staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort or other select hotels will have an additional opportunity to request to join the virtual queue at 6 p.m. on select dates during Extended Evening theme park hours. Guests with this benefit do not need to be in EPCOT to request to join at that time. 

Individual Lightning Lane 

Guests with valid park admission and a park reservation can purchase individual Lightning Lane entry in the My Disney Experience app* via the Disney Genie service on the same day of their visit, subject to availability. Lightning Lane fee has not be provide yet.

2.          Harmony Barber Shop Reopening its Doors this Summer at Walt Disney World

A mainstay of Magic Kingdom Park since opening day, Harmony Barber Shop is opening its doors once again on July 31 for the world’s most magical haircut.

Will be bookable in the My Disney Experience app beginning June 28.

3.          At Walt Disney World Only Starting on June 8, 2022, Disney Genie+ will only be available to purchase on the day of your visit to a Walt Disney World theme park, via the My Disney Experience app.

Genie+ is currently offered as an add-on to a Walt Disney World ticket before arrival. Guests who have already purchased it as an add-on will still be able to use it.

Guests will only be able to purchase Genie+ on the day of their visit for the rest of 2022 and all of 2023. Disney also stated Genie+ is “subject to availability.”

1. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge’ VR Experience Opens at Disney Springs in the Former NBA Experience

1. Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise Announced For 2023
    
   1. Disney Vacation Club will host a member-exclusive cruise in September 2023 with visits to Castaway Cay and the Bahamas.

   1. DVC's chartered voyage for 2023 is a 4-night cruise on the Disney Wish featuring a stop at Nassau in The Bahamas, a day at Castaway Cay and one day at sea. DVC member cruises are known for exclusive stateroom gifts, unique entertainment and a variety of on-board special guests.

   1. The complete itinerary is as follows:

   1. Monday, September 4, 2023 – Depart from Port Canaveral, FL

   1. Tuesday, September 5, 2023 – Enjoy a day at sea filled with unique experiences and special shows created with Members in mind

In order to book a DVC cruise, members are required to qualify for Membership Extras with 150 or more points purchased direct from DVC or via older holdings which qualify under grandfathered terms. Only qualifying points can be used to book the member cruise. Cash rates will also be available.

    1. On July 19, Disney Vacation Club members are eligible to sail on just the second voyage of the Disney Wish. Due construction delays, the cruise was postponed 6 weeks from its initial departure. As a result, limited availability remains for the July 2022 voyage. Interested members should contact DVC Member Services for details.

    1. It's official: the sixteenth Disney Vacation Club resort will be known as The Villas at Disneyland Hotel.

It’s April, so it’s time to start talking about Halloween.  Lots of events and new treats to talk about as Disney celebrates Halfway to Halloween.  Plus a new restaurant opens, a new show gets closer, and we have some news from outside the Disney universe.  And a special announcement from our friend Travis Detrick.  All this and more on Episode 87 of the Mickeyphile Podcast. 

1.Disney will be celebrating Halfway to Halloween this week, culminating on April 28 with a TikTok live from all the parks.  They are encouraging people to Halloween “Bound” in the Parks on this day.  Wednesday April 27 at 8pm Eastern they will be doing a Twitter watch party of a Disney Plus movie (apparently Hocus Pocus - shocker!).  There will be special treats available in the parks to celebrate.

During the dates of April 28, 2022 – May 8, 2022 only holes #1 - #9 will be available for play, and beginning on May 9, 2022 Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course will be closed indefinitely for a major renovation project. We recommend that you play at either Disney’s Palm or Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course during this timeframe as we prepare Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course for your future enjoyment!    1. We’ll catch up with the group of fish from Dr. P. Sherman’s office in “Finding Nemo,” who have made their way across the ocean to the Marine Life Institute. The fish tell Nemo’s story in this fully updated, 25-minute show, incorporating live performers and puppets, along with many of the beloved songs and production numbers from the original “Finding Nemo: The Musical”

Legoland Florida became the first Theme Park designated as a Certified Autism Center by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards.  Includes hotels, shops, restaurants, show venues and attractions at Legoland Theme Park, Legoland Waterpark, and Peppa Pig Theme Park.
