Security at Scotland's Prestwick Airport was tight on Friday ahead of the expected arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump, whose family business is set to open a new golf course in Aberdeenshire.

The new course, dubbed "the greatest 36 holes in golf" on the Trump Golf website, is expected to open Aug. 13.

Trump's visit will combine family and government business, bringing with him a sprawling entourage of White House staff, Secret Service agents and reporters.

He is expected to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss trade, the White House said.

The trip comes ahead of Trump and first lady Melania Trump's state visit to the United Kingdom from Sept. 17-19 where they will meet with King Charles.

STORYLINE:

Crowds cheered for the arrival of Lebanese pro-Palestinian communist militant after he landed in Lebanon Friday following his release after more than 40 years in detention in France.

Georges Ibrahim Abdallah was serving a life sentence for complicity in the murders of two diplomats, one American and one Israeli, in Paris in 1982.

The Paris Court of Appeal ruled last week that Abdallah, who has been imprisoned in France since his arrest in 1984, could be released on the condition that he leave the country and never return.

Abdallah was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987 for complicity in the assassinations of U.S. Army Lt. Col. Charles Ray, who was stationed in Paris as an assistant military attaché, and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov.

In Lebanon, many saw Abdallah as a political prisoner. He was greeted with cheers by a small crowd upon his arrival at the Beirut airport Friday.

STORYLINE:

Families gathered Friday to pray and mourn for several Palestinians killed while trying to get aid from trucks entering the Gaza Strip, according to Nasser Hospital where the bodies arrived.

At least 22 people have been killed since Thursday night, according to hospital records.

Some were killed in strikes, and others were killed while seeking aid, the hospital said.

Experts say Gaza is at risk of famine because of Israel’s blockade and the offensive launched in response to Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023, attack.

Israel’s war in Gaza has killed more than 59,500 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Its count doesn’t distinguish between militants and civilians, but the ministry says that more than half of the dead are women and children.

Palestinian protesters gathered on Friday in downtown Ramallah, West Bank to protest against the war and starvation in Gaza.

Amjad al-Shilah, a Ramallah resident, said, "our people's march today is a rejection of the Israeli occupation's policies aimed at starving our people in the Gaza Strip."

"The entire world is witnessing the starvation of more than two million Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children," he added.

Health workers and aid groups fear hunger that has been building in Gaza for months under Israel’s blockade is now reaching a tipping point into accelerating death.

The Gaza Health Ministry says that in the past three weeks, at least 48 people died of causes related to malnutrition, including 20 children.

The U.N. says up to 100,000 women and children are suffering from severe acute malnutrition and that Palestinians in Gaza are facing famine.

Israel’s war in Gaza has killed over 59,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its tally.

The war began with Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which left around 1,200 dead.
