  • Ep 149 - Alastair Dickinson Talks About How You're Not Alone
Alastair Dickinson is someone who was forced to assess his definition of happiness when living life by following what "should" make you happy.
Coming from a background in rugby had what he describes as a stereotypically masculine view of mental health. Meaning we keep a lid on it and we move on.
This lead to his mental health deteriorating to the point of it affecting his job as a teacher where his depression and anxiety would often make him physically sick.
I'll leave it to Alastair to tell the rest of his story, which he does here but also in much finer detail in his book You're Not Alone.

  • Bonus Episode - A Meditation For Self Love
One of the greatest things I ever did for my mental health was to get out of my own way and learn to meditate. I tried out a number of different styles but the one that I get the most mental health benefit from is loving kindness meditation.

This form of meditiation involves feeling love for someone else, something most of us find quite easy. But then it involves showing it to ourselves as well. Something most of us find quite hard! During my experiments with loving kindness meditation I came up with this one which I call "One for you, one for me" where we almost mimic helping a baby to eat by example and we give love and take a copy of it at the same time.

The meditation starts at 4:30 if you are coming back after your first time! Social links if you like my work and want more:

  • Ep 148 - Tribalism, Globalism and Individualism
How big should our circle be? This is something there are so many different thoughts on and I'm curious to know where you sit?
In 2020 we seem to have labelled tribalism as selfish and globalism is the new thing, but is that something we can maintain? Or is it a recipe for disaster?

  • Episode 147 - Ariele Noble from SHOUT Talks To Us About A Crisis Line With A Difference
Many people out there struggle to talk to others, not because they struggle to open up, but because they would rather use a text/email based service, something where you can make sure you get your words right or social anxiety doesn't hold you back from making the first step.
This is exactly what SHOUT was setup for. Shout is a text based crisis line where you text shout to 85258 and you get a fully trained operative engaged in a text conversationg with you about ANY crisis.
This doesn't just apply to suicide, if you are in an abusive relationship then Shout can help, if you have just lost your job then Shout can help, if you are berieved, in trauma or simply worried about a friend Shout can help.
On this episode I am joined by Ariele Noble who tells us all about shout, how it is setup, how it is supported and what's coming next. I hope you enjoy.

  • Ep 145 - With A Little Help From My Friends
This was a tough one to create! Essentially because those who run their own businesses and those who don't think about things in VERY different ways.

This seems to be another one of those things where opinions are divided and the question I am asking on this episode is "what level of help should a business owner expect from their friends?"

I got a lot of mixed responses on this one, which were all from business owners and not friends of business owners and if you are one such friend I would love to hear your side of the story. Drop me an email to [email protected] with your thoughts!

  • Ep 143 - New Mindset, Who 'Dis?
OK so I leaned into a meme for the title of this episode and I think I just died a little inside! This episode is all about our obsession with new things, like magpies with shiny objects.
It's something I've been thinkng about for a long time because as a content creator there is a certain amount of expectation around constantly making something "NEW".
But the problem is new doesn't always equal better. And often we can miss the better that is right there in search of the new.
This comes as I have recently made the move to go to two older social media channels: YouTube and Twitch. YouTube specifically for the reason that thingss on there aren't popular because they are new, they're popular because they're valuable. And the value of those videos (just like the value of these podcast episodes) can hold and even increase over time.
I'd love for you to come join me on both of those platforms and you can do so with Youtube here and Twitch at twitch.tv/mindsetbydave

  • Ep 142 - When Life Gives You Lemons, Ask Where's My Lemonade?
Let's face it, life doesn't always go to plan does it? And to be fair this year seems to have been dolling out lemons more than any other in this millenium. But the lemons often come before the lemonade and that's what we're talking about on this episode.
I am joined by Jamie Brockhurt and Raeesa Mumith, who have helped compile the stories of 17 wonderful people who found the lemonade from their lemons. Each of these inspirational stories has a little something for everyone, whether it is learning to love the skin you are in, or remembering that there's always space to play!
If you are seeing this before the end of July then there is a giveaway for 5 copies of the book over on my YouTube channel. Details at the start of the episode on how to get involved!
