  • Ep 95 - There's no such thing as an overnight success
Just a quick one this week. Don't worry though, there's lots of chunky interviews coming up in the next few weeks!
This one is just to encourage anyone out there who is feeling like they aren't getting anywhere.
We can be so quick to look at other people's success and assume that it was just handed to them on a plate. Which can leave us feeling like life is a little unfair.
In this episode I discuss how behind every success that we see is a ton of work, trial and error and failure that we don't.

  • Ep 94 - Naomi Wright talks therapy!
Naomi Wright (or Therapy With Naomi as she's known online) is a therpaist passionate about seeing people make progress.
In this episode we discuss her path into therapy, what people's perceptions of it is and what it actually is.
I think therapy is an important piece to many people's puzzle so I hope we achieve a little demystifying here!

  • Ep 93 - Is it OK to joke about mental health?
Should we be allowed to joke about mental health?
A big topic with many mixed opinions. Is it harmful or does it break down barriers? What are the possible dangers of not being allowed to joke about it?
I put my point across explaining why I believe what I do in this episode.

  • Ep 92 - Forensic psychology researcher Sam Walkden talks about public perception of mental health in offenders
This is an utterly fascinating episode. Sam Walkden, soon to have PhD slapped on the end of her name comes at this from a very different angle than any of my previous guests.
She is someone who has studied forensic psychology and is currently researching the public perception of mental health in offenders.
We talk about this, body image, social media and whole host of other topics in this great interview.

  • Ep 90 - Ryan Yates talks about how he's lost more friends through suicide than he did in the army.
"I've lost more friends through suicide than through war" - this was the most memorable line when I heard Ryan Yates talk for the first time.
Ryan is ex military, ex private bodyguard in Iraq and now a man who uses his intimate knowledge of first hand mental health and PTSD to help others take part in what he calls an "active recovery".
This episode focuses on what caused his problems, what he does to keep the demons at bay and how you don't have to be a solider to be susceptible to PTSD.

  • Ep 89 - There's no such thing as motivation!
You'd never say "I felt so motivated to lie on the couch, eat Dorritos and binge Netflix" but you were!
We think of motivation as an ON/OFF thing, either it's there or it is dramatically absent. But that just isn't the case. (It's also massively disempowering to think you can't do things when motivation doesn't show up!)
So I don't talk about motivation, only momentum and that can go both ways.
In this episode I talk about how to spot it and how to turn it around!

  • Ep 88 - Sam Tyrer returns to talk mental health in school
Sam Tyrer is the founder of Change Talks, a Lancashire based initiative taking mental health education into schools.
In this episode we discuss some of the more difficult situations facing children in school at the moment along with the current state of play of the mental health industry as a whole.
It gets pretty deep and personal in places for both Sam and myself.

  • Ep 87 - Fat Shaming A (hopefully) Balanced Perspective
The Cancer Research Obesity campaign... is it fat shaming? Here's my 2p worth!
Recently I was interviewed by BBC Radio Oxford on this topic. I only got to talk for around 8 minutes on the issue and there is so much more I wanted to say.
So this episode is all about that. Fat Shaming. What it is, what it does and what it isn't.
With some particularly controversial opinions on the new Cancer Research UK Obesity campaign.

  • Ep 86 - What Kind Of Person Are You?
Our habits aren't just driven by our actions, they are backed up by our identity too.
Changing how we identify, or the type of person we identify as can change make it so much easier to adhere to behaviour change.
At the end of the day we have to ask does our identity serve us in becoming the person we want to be?
