  • Ep 25 - Dave offers 3 analogies to hel you understand stress better.
Stress is something we ALL experience at one point or another.
In this episode I talk about 3 different analogies that I use to help my one to one clients and seminar audiences understand stress better.
When we understand how stress can build up and then understand the things we can do to help "clear the decks" we can have more control over our emotional state.
I'd love it if you could let me know which analogy works best for you!

  • Ep 24 - Mike Ward talks training, nutrition and personal growth
Mike owns a private gym facility in Warrington UK where he takes normal people and shows them just how capable they are.
One of the things I love about Mike is that as well as excellent training and nutrition knowledge, he also brings the principles of community and fun into his clients' training.
His team often take part in adventure races (including one where Mike himself was chained to another member of the team) and all sorts of other activities, making fitness something that enhances a lifestyle, not dictates it.
We talk about how his ethos on training has grown over time and the highs and lows of running your own business.

  • YPOP Bonus Episode - Sam Cottrell Talks Children's Mental Health
It's Childeren's Mental Health Week so this morning I asked my eldest son Sam if he wouldn't mind having a little chat about his understanding of mental health. He initially said no this morning so we left it there, but then he came and asked me this evening if we could still record it. I'm super proud of him for doing this.I've got to say it was strange speaking to him in my interviewer tone and not my dad tone but we had a great little chat. We talk about his own experiences with mental health, the way it is handled in his school and what it's like living with a dad who has bipolar disorder.I hope you enjoy

  • EP 23 - Dave talks his theory on slingshots and boomerangs
We all understand the simple things that take us towards our goals and away from them. We do a run, we get fitter, we lay on the couch, we get less fit.
But what about the things that take us forwards in the short term only to take is backwards in the long run? Smoking, drinking, drugs, gambling, pornography, binge eating. All of these things feel great whilst we are doing them and that's why they are such easy habits to slip into. But what are the effects afterwards?
I call this a boomerang and identifying yours is the first step to replacing them with different habits.
On the flip side to that we have slingshots. Things that feel crappy whilst doing them, but give you the best rewards. What these will be will depend on what you currently find difficult. For some, getting out to go to training on a cold winter's morning could be one. For others organising the stack of paperwork that is pilings up, or cleaning out the shed!
Write a list of your slingshots and boomerangs and you will have a clearer understanding of how you can reach your goals.
