This year’s Huddle theme is ‘Power To The People’ and we have a jam-packed agenda of 140 + sessions featuring a mix of leading media, tech players, entrepreneurs, academics, celebrities and interested amateurs that will discuss and debate how people are taking back control and what this means for brands and communications

We are living in turbulent times. With a climate of political populism, economic upheaval and general uncertainty for the future, Britain has never been so divided. Across the generations, by regions and within families, differences of opinions, thoughts, values and behaviours are now widespread - young versus old, city versus rural, vegan versus meat-eater, London versus the rest the country, the discord goes on. 

And across these different tribes a common response is emerging - with so many factors out of people’s control, with so many concerns for the future – what are the small ways in which they can take back power? How can people shape their lives, choices, decisions in the way that they want them to be – irrespective of what government, media, brands or other people might be saying or doing.

Acast brings together a smörgåsbord of respected podcasting voices from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the media (whether through ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation).

We’ll explore the role brands play in the representation of diverse groups, tackling the dangers of “faking it” and simply ticking boxes, and whether brands are truly working with communities in ways that are authentic and meaningful. We’ll also hear more about the journeys our speakers have been on in the booming and rapidly maturing podcasting space.

More and more our opinions are shaped by big brands, hidden online algorithms and those we’ve come to call “influencers”.

Who are these “influencers” and why do we trust them? What’s the difference between an influencer and a celebrity? Has anyone here ever met an influencer? Will they disappear as quickly as they arrived on the scene?

This year’s Huddle is all about The Journey to Post Human. Two years ago, we explored what it meant to be human in an increasingly digital age. Fast forward to 2017 and the exponential rate of technological change continues to reshape our humanity in deeply profound ways. This year we’re asking Huddlers to look to the future and explore what it holds for humanity. Here’s how some Huddlers got on.
