“The End of Absolom:
The Good News & Bad News”
Pastor Joey Anjiki
1. The fate of those who walk without believing in God
* 2 Samuel 18:9 (See above)
* The original word for sin: “hamartia” (in Greek) = “to miss the mark”
* Does religion cause war? The cause of 1,763 wars that have occurred in history
Wars classified as having been caused by religion were a total of 123 (6.98%)
Of those, if the wars related to Islam are removed, that leaves 57, which is 3.23% of the total
* What is the source of conflict? Human sin.
* Isaiah 59:1-2 “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” (NIV)
2. Good news and bad news
* The inability of Ahimaaz, one of David’s men, to tell David the good news (victory) and bad news (Absolom’s death)
* The good news and bad news regarding the gospel
* The testimony of Martin Marty’s wife
3. Salvation for loved ones
* 2 Samuel 18:33 “The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: ‘O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you—O Absalom, my son, my son!’” (NIV)
* Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (NIV)
Thoughts to share at mini church:
1. Do you have the same sin nature as Absolom did?
2. What is the good news and bad news regarding the gospel? Why is it important to tell both aspects?
3. Who do you want to tell of the salvation of the cross? Please pray for that person.
