We are talking kindness!

First, I share a couple of articles on kindness followed some cool stories collected showing  how amazing we can truly be.

At the end I talked about the “Shine the Beacon” Challenge. For reference, it was run in August of 2020, and obviously the contest has long expired. However, the invitation is still there to openly celebrate good people doing good things in life. We don’t do enough of that. Too many people have zero clue how much of an impact they have had on others in their communities, and that’s a shame.

Trust can be tough to untangle, it has multiple meanings and like most concepts, has different perspectives for each of us. But we’re going to try it anyway.

We’ll start with the definitions of trust we’re working with (Source: Merriam-Webster), continuing into a couple of recent stories serving as personal reminders. One includes a pair of kite surfers at the beach and how trust appeared from my eye to guide each of them. The second involves an incident in the woods where what I trusted externally failed spectacularly and I was forced to trust within.

Today's guest is the amazing singer-songwriter Eliza Rush!

This conversation brings a number of amazing lessons Eliza shares from her own experience of taking leaps of faith that took her along the way, often with unexpected surprises along the way!

Oh, and we also recount our experiences learning to surf in Venice Beach, California a couple years back.

Eliza also performs 3 of her original songs for us:

“Daughter of the Sun”, performed solo, approximately 10 minutes in

“Come This Far”, followed by “You Are Worthy”, both accompanied by percussionist Mike Wojik. These songs begin approximately one hour and 10 minutes into the show.

This is a little longer than my shows usually go but it’s worth the time because it connects inspiring lessons, entertaining stories, and amazing music all rolled into one. I may be biased but it’ll make that long trek to the beach just a little more amazing.

When you think of the word “home”, where does that word take you?

Is it a place, a mindset, a memory, an emotion?

All of these? None of these?

I posted this question recently to my social media and in this episode I share a story regarding where this question took me recently (back to school, literally) as well as share and reflect off of the comments I received.

It seems as though this topic, like many, has a unique answer for everybody who responded, and there are likely an infinite number of other answers that could be explored.

Chatting with Mindfulness Coach and Writer Ana Ferrari from New Zealand.

It was a tremendous discussion regarding how the practice of staying in the present offers the opportunity to allow the emotions we’ve been avoiding for years and decades to be seen and felt. Once this happens they do what they need to and move along. The message is that we do not and have never needed to be fixed, just truly seen in our entirety.

In the end, that’s really what we’re all trying to do here, be seen and understood. It starts with being seen by our own selves.

For a lot of us, there is that mechanism in our bodies that on occasion, takes over for our minds and we just find ourselves taking an action, taking a step, making a commitment that our minds have been talking ourselves out of, sometimes for years. These moments can be simply calling out of work and taking the kids to the beach for the day because you all need it. Or they could be as huge and intense as walking away from a career and doing the thing you always dreamed of. These may look ridiculous to the outside world, and on occasion even to ourselves. But they are what we need, and sometimes it feels like we’re just watching our bodies act on the think over the objections of our minds.

The other day I posted the following on social media: Tell me about a time where you just said “F___ it” and did a thing. Did it work? How did it feel?

Today we’ll work through the responses and comments and talk about how this means different things for different people. Like most things do, of course.

Using Valentine's Day as a backdrop, the focus is on self love. The overall premise is that we are all like water pitchers (or lemonade, whatever) and we need to keep our pitchers full or else we can't pour for others.
