Pro Football Hall of Famer and Chicago Bears legend Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael died in hospice care on Wednesday after a years-long battle with ALS at 67. After his playing career ended, ‘Mongo’ had little trouble finding work. His boisterous personality led to roles on television, radio, and even in professional wrestling. Former sports director and anchor Mark Giangreco, who worked with McMichael at NBC Chicago, joined Bob Sirott and Andy Masur to share memories of working with ‘Mongo’, how management felt about it, and the time he almost passed out on the sportscast.
