Like Philip needed help correcting his disciple-making methods, Apollos desperately needs someone who can explain the gospel accurately to come alongside him. Aquila and Priscilla meet him in Ephesus and teach him to explain the gospel accurately.

Paul begins his third missionary journey and ends up in Ephesus. There he finds 12 men who also need to understand the gospel accurately. Through these 12 men, a new congregation is established in Ephesus, and every person who lives in Asia hears the gospel in a two-year period of time.

While Paul is an Ephesus, he writes a letter to the church in Corinth. He spent more than a year with the believers there, but a culture of prideful celebrity teaching threatens the unity of this young church. Paul wants them to understand Jesus is their leader, and the gospel is not a means for men to gather followers for themselves.

Paul is separated from Silas and Timothy in his sixth destination—Athens—during the second missionary journey. Although Paul is in Athens, fleeing from the persecution in Berea and waiting on the rest of his team to join him, he is overcome by the idol worship he encounters in Athens.

In Corinth, Paul meets two refugee Jews who were forced to leave Rome. Like Paul, they are tentmakers. Paul will disciple them. Their story teaches us that all believers can become disciple-makers under the right leadership.

While in Corinth, Paul writes to the new church in Thessalonica. This church was born in the midst of great persecution. Because Satan—through persecution—has prevented Paul from returning to them, Paul’s letter will encourage and strengthen them after Timothy’s visit with them.

Paul understands this teaching of circumcision for both Jews and Gentiles who have come to faith in Christ changes the character of God, distorts his love, and rejects Christ as Lord and Savior.

In order to help the churches Paul and Barnabas have just planted to stand firm in their faith in Jesus, Paul continues an argument from yesterday's reading. He introduces four more arguments, proving that God’s terms for salvation have always been by grace through the shedding of the blood of the innocent on behalf of the guilty and through faith in Jesus who fulfilled these terms.
