A new Ipsos poll conducted for Global News has found healthcare, followed by affordability, are the two most important issues to voters in this federal election campaign.

Climate change is also among the top concerns - and pollsters can't remember a time when that issue has been so high.

Just before we came on air, I spoke with Darrell Bricker, the CEO of Ipsos, and he told me more.

Pelosi announces Trump impeachment probe, saying ‘no one is above the law’

A rough transcript of a July phone call reveals US President, Donald Trump, repeatedly prodded Ukraine's new leader to work with Rudy Giuliani and the US attorney general to investigate Joe Biden.

In the call, Trump raised unsubstantiated allegations that the former vice president tried to interfere with a Ukrainian prosecutor's investigation of his son, Hunter.

The conversation is part of a whistleblower's complaint, which is central to the formal impeachment inquiry House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched yesterday.

The connection to Attorney General William Barr marks a new and potentially more serious issue for Trump because it shows he took steps to involve the government with a foreign country to investigate a political rival.

Making the case that some elected officials should receive higher pay

Last year, Nelson City Council voted to give its public representatives a pay increase. Councillors' pay increased from $17,255 to $25,000 per year, while the Mayor's salary increased from $42,011 to $59,500.

At the meeting of the Union of BC Municipalities this week, first-time councillor Jesse Woodward said that the pay raises meant that new faces could afford to take seats in council and it encouraged a broad spectrum of people to run for office.

Auditor General Carol Bellringer resigns ‘for personal reasons’

Citing personal reasons, BC Auditor General, Carol Bellringer, has suddenly announced her resignation, effective December 31st.

She's been in that job for five years. Just last week, she issued a report citing weaknesses and gaps in how expenses are dealt with in the offices of Speaker Daryl Plecas, the Clerk, and the Sergeant at Arms in the BC Legislature. She says in some instances there was no policy, but in others policies were ignored.

That report indicated spending by the Speaker's Office has tripled under Plecas.

Government urged to make prescription contraception free to all

Tomorrow is World Contraception Day and ahead of it, the group Options for Sexual Health is calling on the government of British Columbia and the Legislative Assembly to ensure that the 2020 budget includes provisions to make all forms of prescription contraception be made universally accessible and free for any citizen.

In the US, House Democrats are weighing the next steps in their impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.

Some lawmakers want to limit the impeachment probe to Trump's push for Ukraine to dig up dirt on Democrat Joe Biden. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a closed-door meeting Wednesday that if the inquiry generates articles of impeachment, they would cover more than just Ukraine. But there's also discussion of imposing some limits.

A leadership aide said no final decision has been made.

Pelosi's comments were described by two people familiar with them who were unauthorized to talk about the private meeting and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The talks are coming just a few hours after the White House released transcript notes of a conversation Trump had with Ukraine's president. Trump says he did not link U.S. aid to Ukraine's co-operation with the probe of Biden's family.
